Belhaven Brewery’s flagship American-style IPA. A bold but refreshing ale using pale malt to provide sweetness and a little Crystal malt for extra toffee and a touch of astringency. Challenger provides clean bitterness and an underlying herbal hoppyness. Hersbrucker adds a little fruit, spiciness and floral character and Cascade as the late hop adds masses of grapefruit citrus aroma and taste and floral fragrance. All three hops contribute to the bold bitterness and satisfying finish as well as the huge “hop store” aroma.
Ingredients: Pale malt, Cascade, Hersbrucker and Challenger hops.

Aroma: yum! Different hops that all come together beautifully. Biscuity malt. Delicious. Somewhat soapy and neste-like. Definitely my type of aroma. Very faint scent of liquorice.
Flavour: Initially sweet and reminiscent of cookies – in a delicious way. Mild hop bitterness kicks in and makes it a very palatable albeit mild beer. I think of getting inside a cosy cabin at winter, fresh baked cookies and some fluffy beer. Some of that liquorice again, and it doesn’t fit the taste as well as the aroma. Slightly roasted aftertaste. Overall much breadier than expected.
Appearance: Clear, yellowish orange body w/ some pale, frothy head.
Palate: Fluffy, delicious.

12 oz brown bottle.

Pours an orange red color. About one finger bone colored head. Light head retention, poor lacing.

Aroma is very malty, surprisingly malty. Caramel, honey....light earthy hops buried in there someplace. Actual smells quite good, but not at all what I expected. Not at all true to style.

Taste follows the nose. Sweet, caramel, bread crust. A little nutty. Earthy hops deep in there. Low bitterness. Theres a flowery taste in there, I guess it’s from the thistle.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. It’s soft and creamy smooth. High drinkability.

Overall, it’s decent. It’s not what I consider an IPA. It’s good, but it’s not an IPA, too sweet. It’s interesting, it’s different, it’s not terrible. For that reason, it’s worth a shot. I would probably try it again, and I would recommend it....although not highly.

Pint at the Flodigiary restaurant on the Skye tour of Trotternish peninsula... After surviving the Quaraing, needed a bite and a pint. Clear cold, small white foamy head, ample carbonation. Floral and toffee on the nose. Sweet caramel and mild citrus... Sweet finish... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Low head, high carbonation. Wine and fruity aroma. Medium bitterness and short aftertaste with herbal notes. Overall great beer, but could be better with more hoppy notes and less sweet taste
