Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pastuerised.
A refreshing example of an India Pale Ale from the master brewers at Belhaven. The blend of Cascade and Challenger hops combine to produce an abundance of fresh hop aroma that preludes a bitter-dry taste explosion. Crafted from nearly three centuries of brewing heritage at Scotland’s oldest independent brewery, this ale from Belhaven will have your taste buds tingling.
6.1% USA export version. The Europe version is 5.3%.

On draught at The Rover, Göteborg. Charneol colour with creamy head. Pretty malty with a laid-back hopiness all the way. Bit one-dimensional and not att all bitter as mentioned under commercial description.

smoke is the first aroma followed by pine-citrus. it pours with a thick off white head. lacing is sparse and clumpy looking. The initial mouth feel is delicate like a semi sparkling wine, then creamy when the caramel flavor comes through. this is my first foray into an imported ipa and I expect it to be an atypical example of ipa because it’s from Scotland and I was told to expect it to be different. It’s a combination that is very pleasant to drink to me. I like it and rate it pretty well because I like it, not because it’s a good example of IPA.

Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits IPA Nite in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear tan/brown brew with an off white head. Sparce lacing. Aroma is roasted barley malt, smoked peat, caramel, and a touch of apple. Taste is smooth with hint of nuts, caramel and flowery hops. Finish is a medium body and a sweet aftertaste. A terrific nut brown ale but missing the hop bite I am used to in IPAs.

Bottle Hazy golden pour with minimal head. Grassy hop aroma, but light for an IPA. Flavor of grassy and citrus hops, mainly grapfruity, again, pretty un-bitter for an IPA. Pretty smooth, good session brew, but not as bitter as I would want an IPA.

Bottled. An amber beer with a huge light orange head. The aroma is sweet and quite hoppy with notes of grapefruit, thistle, grass, and some flowers. The flavor is sweet and very floral with notes of thistle, elderberryflowers, and some perfume, on a light caramel back ground, before the hops gain slightly in strength and comes along with notes of grapefruit and grass, leading to a nicely bitter end, after which the acidic grapefruit note lingers in the mouth.
