Reid (1085), Salem, Oregon, USA Jul 26, 2006 Coppery/dark orange beer topped with a gorgeous frothy off white head.
Unusually for a British IPA I can actually smell the aroma especially of the cascade hops, spicy and light grapefruit..some good malty aromas too.
Great fruity hoppiness, tingly on the tongue then smooths out for a creamy malty finish, yet the excellent hop bitterness persists down the throat and in the after taste for quite a while. Very livelly taste..a "zing" and a great boost to the drinkability.
I liked this a lot..a great American style IPA with a delectable British feeling..well done Belhaven. Foxbush (452), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 18, 2006 Updated: Dec 17, 2007This was my first from Belhaven. The IPa was excellent. Not as hoppy as most but well balanced and no bitter finish. Mediun body with a golden color. Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest brewery and this IPA tasted like a lot has gone into its brewing. This was an IPA could be be enjoyed at anytime, the 7.1% alocohol was very stealth. My second bottle was enjoyed on 12/17 during Monday night football. This is a balanced IPA with a smooth hop taste but not overpowering. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2006 Golden body with a white head that leaves good lacing. The hop aroma is a little cheesey, earthy british hops. The flavor could be good with a more interesting hop profile. Easy drinking. Cable (286), SE, Oklahoma, USA Jul 8, 2006 Sampled from bottle. Pours clear copper with a sudsy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is quite malty with berry and vanilla notes. Not as hoppy in the aroma as one might expect. Nicely bitter with a toasted malt backbone. Zesty flavor hop addition. Medium-full body and well-carbonated. Better than I expected: a solid IPA. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Jul 7, 2006 Clear amber orange with an average frothy head. Some grapefruit notes, a lot of pine, and some spice. A fairly balanced flavour with a bitter edge. A moderate body with some lasting qualities, with a bit of toffee sweetness in the aftertaste. Thanks to highlandlad for sharing burpfrank (292), carpinteria, California, USA Jul 2, 2006 This had a nice head.Aroma was aromatic of hops.Color typical.Tatsed full-bodied with a strong bitterness.I liked this.will go back for more!! highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia Jun 26, 2006 Interesting to see Scottish brewers experimenting with US hops. I’d love to know how this is selling in the homeland. It’s a very fair IPA, melding some typical Belhaven caramel-type malt to tangy Cascade and spicy Challenger. In the glass, it was a clear tawny gold with a good ring of lacing foam. A highly untypical aroma for a Scottish IPA, with the familiar smoky malts swamped by grapefruit and curaco. Medium bodied and softly carbonated. Caramel and fruit gums are the first taste-impression, followed by lemonade notes, pine needles and grapefruit in a very dry, puckering finish. Yum. (500ml bottle from Purvis Cellars, Melbourne) Tmoney99 (4660), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2006 Bottle. Poured copper color with a large frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate tart citrus and peaty smoke aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced flavor with a dry bitter finish that was long lasting. Good complex brew.
