| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Pours a clear orange color with a moderately thick mostly white head. Piney hop aroma is mouth watering to say the least. Piney hops continue in the flavor with a hint of citrus. Mouthfeel is fairly thick with just a bit of sparkling carbonation. Nothing spectacular but a solid example of the style. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 20, 2005 orange color, head is beige, not lasting. aroma is initially quite citrusy, but the malts (caramel) begin to overpower the hoppiness as it oxidizes. the flavor is initially quite medicinal, but becomes more lemony and plasticy towards the end. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Aroma is great with a fresh hop scent and the color is a deep rich gold. It’s a medium body brew with a full malt flavor that has a strong smoky, oak taste on the back. The hop flavor is weaker then the aroma suggests but has a good bitterness. In the end the oak flavor is too strong and takes away from the rest of what this beer could beer. ilovedarkbeer (1369), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Somewhat of a session ale IMO. Tastes less hoppey and more sweet and bitter than most IPAs. Pours a honey amber color and tastes like hops and sugar. When it warms you can actually taste the thistle. Not bad. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2006 The first thing that piqued my attention was the alcohol content. For a pommy beer this is quite high even though the style should be at the higher end. It isn’t an American behemoth but this is of no matter. The beer looks fine in the Duvel tulip glass and forms a great head over the burnished hue. The nose is quite subtle but delightful with aromas of citrus hoppiness and delicate malty overtones. The balance of these in the mouth is also special with a fine finish. This is a great example of the British versions of a fine style that seems to have been somewhat wrested from their hands by the plethora of US brews. A session beer par excellence.
