grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 13, 2006 Now this is an interesting beer here. Pretty beer. Lustery and almost purple it’s so amber colored. Fizzy and only slightly filtered. Bubbles are pushing the yeasty bits around. Nose is solid. Much more hoppy than anticipated being british and with those dirty fuggles hops that are soo earthy. Citrus and a dry cobwebbyness and then something really strange but appealing, bacon, applewood smoked bacon. Hidden beneath the hoppy residue is a nice smoky malt! Ha! The malt base smells and tastes just like their scottish ale’s. Subtley smoky. Tart meatiness that the hoppy earthy bitterness matches supremely. Flavors reflect all of the above qualities adding a pleasent lingering bitterness from both the hops and carbonation. Syrupy residue. Mouthfeel is also exceptional. Better than most. Coating. Good beer.
Goodgrief (1050), Middletown, Delaware, USA Oct 10, 2008 KSBF 08 - Orange amber pour with small layer of foam. Balanced beer with lots of floral english style hops and sweet malt. Crisp and refreshing. Probably the best English IPA I’ve had yet. troyc (976), Lubbock, Texas, USA Oct 9, 2008 (Tap) Pours a orange color with a small white head. Aroma of hops and light caramel malts. Taste includes lots of hops, pine, some citrus, light toffee and light alcohol. Balance is reasonably good, and the beer is pretty drinkable. I enjoyed this one. WesKBob (162), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear, fizzy amber color. Moderate white head, creamy, with excellent retention and decent lacing. Mild aroma of dry and bitter hops. Taste is just slightly malty but dominated by bitter hops. Slightly piney in the dry finish. Definitely not a balanced beer--hops dominate throughout. But enjoyable and drinkable. rodenbach99 (428), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada Oct 7, 2008 bouteille de 500ml, bière passablement dorée pour une IPA, utilisation de houblon cascade et challenger qui fait un mélange entre les usa et les royaumes-unis, mousse compacte et durable, nez agréable, bouche piquante, amère, longue et avec beaucoup de tonus. j’aime bien.
