Sweet aroma with hints of peat smokiness and (power of suggestion?) heather. Very malty rich flavor, leaning towards toffee. Nice.

500 mL bottle. Pours a deep red with a small beige head. Aroma is of caramel malt, molasses, red licorice, and toffee. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, with some sawdust in there. Velvety, smooth mouthfeel. Sort of unpleasant, dry, saw-dust aftertaste. Drinkable and enjoyable. But weak sauce for a wee heavy.

500 ml bottle. Finland. Red brown colour with long lasting thin creamy head. Sweet malty aroma. Flavour with malts and warming alcohol. Even more than one could expect for a 6.5% beer.

Pours a clear very dark chestnut with a small white frothy head. Aroma of light sweet toasted malt, some grass and somewhat buttery. I dont find this beer to have a rich nor a deep flavor as the description indicates. Glassy flavor of lightly toasted crystal malt, light caramel, touch of leather and very buttery. Medium body with a fuller mouthful with a good amount of bubbly carbonation, a bit buttery. Smooth but not really interesting.

Pouring a clear and dark crimson to chestnut color, the body is capped with a small, beige colored head. A soapy wash of lacing drips back towards the body. Aromas of caramel, stewed figs, vanilla, and chocolate greet the nose. Flavors include a sweet brown sugar base, with caramel, chocolate, and faint hints of molasses smokiness. Subtle earthy hops notes add balancing bitterness on the back end, but this one is still all about the big malt flavors. Substantial and syrupy on the body, the carbonation is nice, but there is far too much alcoholic heat for a beer that only clocks in at 6.5%. This brew is not bad, but it does not do much for me, really.

I tried this beer on September 30, 2008 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a very dark translucent reddish-brown colour, with a 1" thich tan coloured head. the aroma was sweet and molasses like, very malty. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, medium carbonation. The flavour is sweet malt, molasses, and dark fruit with a little bit of brown sugar.

Very nice Scotch Ale with excellent balance. This beer has a complex malt flavor and minerally hop bitterness. The liquid is a dark mahogany topped by a big, sticky, foamy head that leaves excellent lacing. The aroma is a bit on the mineral hop side, but I guess it could be the water. The malt is toasty, deep caramel with some thick doughy flavors. The hops are stronger than expected, and the beer is probably considered quite balanced. There are some slight medicinal notes lurking in the background. The feel is rich and creamy. It is a sweet beer that avoids being sticky. The beer gets better and better as the temperature increases.
