elektronikfagteknikerlærling (892), kbh, Denmark Sep 15, 2006 bottle. dark amber color. roasted malt aroma. lots of roasted malt in taste. carpy. bit boring. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland Sep 7, 2006 [Bottle from Gothenburg System Bolaget] Plummy sweet malt nose, slightly spicey, toffeeish. Pretty sweet, medium bodied, not enough hops to offset the sweetness. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2006 Bottle. Deep reddish/chestnut color with a beige head. Nose is sweet, tinny, well rounded and mild. Flavor is also mildy sweet, vanilla, malt, slight bitterness. Nice mouthfeel, bubbly, not overly thick. Nothing remarkable, but decent for sure. KnutAlbert (3111), Oslo, Norway Sep 4, 2006 Bottled, in Sweden. C0lor of storng tea. Smells of flowers and candy. Sweet taste, too, with a port-like finish. A fine ale. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark Sep 2, 2006 Bottle. Amberish in colour with a medium sized head. Malty and sweet with notes of cinnamon and maybe a hint of hops. Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 2, 2006 Appearance: Pours a rich caramel bronze chestnut color that sits nobly in my snifter with a perfectly majestic creamy tan head. The beer leaves heavy sheet of lacing on the side of the glass when gently swirled.
Smell: Caramel malts, figs, dates, a hint of apple and oak are truly sensational.
Taste: This is exactly what I expect from a Scotch Ale. It is sweet thick and lightly boozy with earthy peat flavors caramel malts a splash of prune juice and an ever so light dry hop character hidden in the smoke attribute.
Mouthfeel: Perfect smooth velvet feel with adequate carbonation and ideal finish.
Drinkability: As much as I love this style it is usually cloyingly sweet or prohibitively alcoholic. This one is neither. It is one of the most drinkable of the style.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers! Magicdave6 (5400), London, Greater London, England Aug 30, 2006 Aroma is spicey and sweetish. Taste is lager malts like a bock with cinnamon Scotland can do better. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 26, 2006 The Innaugural beer of my brand new bottle opener... Quarter-inch thick light tan head with dark brown but still translucent body. Smells malty mostly, like a scotch ale or wee-heavy usually does. Tastes malty and somewhat fruitty... Like many Scotch ales, but not as overwealming like Scotch Silly or even McEwans. Very good. One of the best Scotch ales (if not the best). I’m very very impressed
