WhiteSoxFan (152), USA May 5, 2006 500 ml bottle. Bottle conditioned. Pours a deep, slightly cloudy brown. Thin 1 cm. tan head, fades quickly to foam. Just a tiny bit of red in the tint when held to the light - mostly brown. Bunch of sediment from the 2nd pour, OK lacing. Aroma is dank and malty - raisins and plums, little bit of alcohol - not terribly strong overall. Little bit of bread, smoky. Flavor is really well balanced - slightly towards malty. high level of bitterness up front and then a ton of sweet malty complexity in the middle and the finish. Very smokey and peaty, especially in the finish, plummy raisiny. Palate is solid medium, balanced by high carbonation. Fizzy, dry finish. Actually felt a little lighter towards the end. Overall pretty good. Malty, but nicely balanced and interesting. Pretty easy drinking for 6+%. Definitely lighter and less sweet than a McEwan’s. TheLeadDog (101), Kent, Washington, USA Apr 26, 2006 I liked this beer. One bottle with a thick steak was perfect. Carmel, chocolate and a little sweet. Thick head and good laceing. Thick and hearty. A very good taste and long lasting flavor. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 25, 2006 Updated: Apr 26, 2006Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours deep bronze with a very large off white head. Aroma of sweet and roasted malts, some caramel notes also. Flavor is slightly sweet, smooth, some bitter hoppiness and dryness. ok beer. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Apr 21, 2006 Updated: Nov 28, 2006Aroma: wonderful sourish rich malt, rich yeast, well integrated hops, fruity, noble sweetness, cask matured, roasted
Appearance: clear, red brown with beautiful white 8white beige) foam.
Flavor: Smoky, rich, sweet-bitter, varied, mineral.
Palate: slender but harsh (damn I hate this word, sträv in Swedish), thin but bubbly and thereby thick. bmackenzie (39), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 20, 2006 Bottle from Regional in Wellington.
Pours amber/brown with a firm head. Aromas of oak and sweet malt - even worty. Not too much hop aroma to speak of. Sweet malt biscuits, followed by roast leaving a full palate and decent mouthfeel. Not much bitterness balancing this one (as you might expect) but a gentle warming of the gullet inspiring you to take another sip.
lethe (168), Stony Brook by way of Cincinnati, New York, USA Apr 16, 2006 Almond-colored pour with a sturdy with foam head. Nose is malt tones of pecan, wheat bread, and oak. Palate is smooth, even and appetizing. Flavor is rich with a definite nutty prelude that is rounded out with a roasted malt finish that perfectly captures that faint smokiness that characerizes many of the best scotch ales. Excellent in balance and depth. My heart’s in the highlands, gentle and fair. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 7, 2006 Pours a dark brown with a white head that quickly diminishes. Very smooth creamy aroma with lots of caramel. TAste has lots of what as in the aroma. Very smooth and rich with mild carbonation. Roasted malt and caramel dominate the taste with slight bitterness on the finish. Very nice enjoyable beer. thehipone (197), Australia Mar 31, 2006 Everything you want from a scotch ale, nothing you don’t. Pours out a deep brown with a fine, creamy head. Doesnt really smell like much, but it has a big malty flavor. Medium-thick mouthfeel with low carbonation. Nice.
