BrideOfFrankenkitty (44), Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2006 This poured a dark amber and the malts were obvious before the glass got near my nose. The flavor was malty, nutty, almost smokey, but not smoked. There was a hint of sweetness like carmel or molasses Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Feb 19, 2006 50 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Dark reddish brown colour with a weak light brown head. Smooth aroma of dried fruit, caramel and sweet malt. Great light smooth complex flavour of malt, earty and little bitterness and ends little smoky at the end. Quite good and smooth. GRM (1235), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Feb 16, 2006 Bottle, 500ml; expiry date: November 2005; eye; brown with reddish reflects, respectable caramel-colour head, good effervresecence; nose: malt, hops, alcool; mouht: malt, alcool, bitterness, thin, it loses some of its bitterness as it warms; contrarily to Goldorak, did not experience floaties and my beer was relatively clear. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 12, 2006 Pours a hazy light brown with a white head. Smelled like apples when I poured it out, but then I got hints of sweetness, malts, and some caremel. It was smooth, a little carbonated zing to it and had strong malt taste. It warmed me up a bit too as I sipped it. It did however have a strange aftertaste. bmanning (142), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 10, 2006 Pours a deep amber with a medium sized tan head. Weak aroma of wheat, corn, malts, caramel, nuts, and very sllight fruit. Flavor is a bit better than the aroma with a really nice smoky finish. But the smoky flavor is just about all this beer has going for it. The other flavors barely come through and include woody, yeasty, earthy, and spicy. The texture is very watery and not at all good. Not impressed by this one. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2006 1 pint, 0.9 fl oz. Pours mahagony with a rocky tan head that goes edgy. Aroma is berries, malt (straw, hay) with trace yeast and dark fruit (plums). Medium sweetness, medium tart bitterness, medium acidity, malty caramel nutty flavor. Medium bodied and fizzy, smooth clean palate. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2006 Hazy brownish/ruby pour, with khaki head. The aroma was roasty malty and nutty, with some toffee, brown sugar, and cacao at repeated sniffs. The palate was medium to dense, with nice roasty caramel malt flavors, plus almonds, tobacco, brown sugar, and cacao. The hops are subdued. This is a soid ale that I consider to be more Scotch than Scottish. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 21, 2006 Expiry date on this one was Nov2005, I’ve had it sitting in my cellar for about a year I’d say.
Dark cranberry reddish, with a ton of susprended floaties, it was like a scratched ruby, or a botched batch of jello. Proper amount of off-white head on top.
Interesting yeasty madeirization, that gives it a nice woody, worked in feel, like a piece of furniture at your grandma’s place. Notes of cinnamon spicyness as well.
Smooth feel, with a bit of roasted malt, but the yeast seems to have taken this Beer over a little too much. Aftertaste is caramel sweetbut with a bitter side that was more yeasty than hoppy. It wasn’t what I expected, but fascinating nonetheless!
