Bottle. Pours very dark , almost black but with virtually no head. Aromas of maple syrup and an earthen undertone of soil and dirt. Flavour of moist wood, malts - coffee and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is very watery despite a strong carbonation, and an added sweetness really made it hard to enjoy. Aftertaste of cigarettes and ash is equally unpleasant.

(Rating #389)

slight reddish tint to an amber beer. Wisp of head. Malt aroma with slight peat. Rich full body, but not coating. Flavor has a caramel complex that lasts to the end. Bitterness and other hops are very subdued

Pours a rich ruby fringed clearish burnt brown, with a head of creamy and soapy off-white. Rich oat and malt aroma with an excellent sweep of cream, apples and light cinnamon. Flavor is sweet caramel and mellowed honey, with a burst of supple fruits and chewy grains steeped in molasses and brown sugar. Not much depth or holding power. Palate is a little salty and very sweet, but not cloying or sticky. Finishes clean. Almost a little metallic tinge on the smack.

Bottle. Pours a great looking reddish amber with a light tan head. Aroma is of deep malts, light fruits. The flavor is mainly the same, malty and fruity, light smoke, very earthy and just a tinge of alcohol. This beer surprised me. Glad I picked it up because this is a really nice ale.

Go ahead and put your snout into the glass and inhale this one. Like a bucket of wet flowers. Nice. Tastes earthy with the right amount of bitterness. But there’s a heaviness to it (a wee bit) that discourages multiple pints.
