ryananderson (74), Ontario, Canada Oct 18, 2005 Updated: Nov 8, 2005I could smell the malty aroma as soon as I opened the 500ml bottle. The aroma also has some light hoppiness. Pours a large frothy white head which produces good lacing. Colour is a dark red/brown. The initial flavour is lightly bitter with light to moderate sweetness which becomes sweeter for the finish. The finish contains some very light alcohol which complements the rich maltiness. I also noticed some tin flavours in the finish. Medium to full bodied with a lightly dry texture. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden Oct 16, 2005 Pours dark amber with a thick, creamy tan head that disappears too quick. Malty, fruity nose with some notes of bread and toffee. Sweet, hoppy, caramelly flavour. Somewhat dry mouthfeel. Some hints of wood in finish. homebrew (15), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Oct 9, 2005 Deep amber color. A thick creamy head that rivals a Guiness nitro tap pour. I swear I smelled a sherry whiskey barrel in that first whiff. Flavor is quite good, with a Belgianish sweet/sour with some smokey complexity. Finishes with a metallic palate which is otherwise malty but clean. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Oct 8, 2005 Dark brown/red color with a dminishing but lasting creamy head. A very attractive beer. I could smell the aroma as I poured the bottle. Rich and malty. When I take a sip there is more than little smoke mixed with the malt. Very tastey. The palate is creamy smooth. A deliciously well made beer. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 30, 2005 This dark brown ale poured with a short tan head that dissipated quickly. There is a strong flavor of smoked malt and a slightly carbonated mouthfeel. This is a nicely balanced full-flavored beer. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 21, 2005 Good but not that heavy really. The aroma is filled with oak and smoke and some toasted malt. The appearance is a chocolate brown with a big head. The flavor has a robust earthy - peaty - smokiness to it that is very much a character of Scottish things. It also has plenty of malt and just the right amount of alcohol and bitter hops. The palate is smooth but it could stand to be a bit thicker. This is Scotland in a bottle. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia Sep 20, 2005 A rich amber/copper colour when poured and a clean toffee nose greets you. There is a sparse amount of hop aroma and taste but this is compensated by the warming nature of a beer of this ABV. Caramel flavour overtones and a hint of woodiness makes this a fine beer. I nearly fell over when I was asked to pay $12 for it though! paco (204), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Sep 8, 2005 Bottle. Pours a rust colour with a nice sized white head. Smoky aroma with some hints of sweetness. Overwhelming smokey flavour that made my mouth taste like an old shoe. As bad as it tastes it was fairly smooth, not a lot of bite.
