This beer rocks! The nose is malty and filled with caramel, molasses, butterscotch and tawny port. This deep amber beer has a medium-sized, off-white creamy head. Yum! Much like my nose, my taste buds were rewarded with caramel, molasses, butterscotch, tawny port and oak. Well-balanced, though. Not overly sweet. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Long, fizzy, semi-sweet, but mostly dry finish. Excellent Scotch Ale!

Pours a clear dark copper with a big lacing off-white head. Thick, sweet, lightly caramelized somewhat acidic aroma with a hint of peat malt. Body is thick, sweet and complex, with a lasting smoked malt finish. Enjoyable throughout, a great Scottish ale.

Quite OK. Slight caramelly aroma, slight hint of smokiness. Palate is quite sweet, but a balanced sweetness. Malty, raisiny, peaty, caramelly, a bit peppery towards the finish. Probably one of the better Scottish ales i’ve had (behind Traquair House Ale).

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a medium-sized and persistent beige foamy head. Sweet roasted malty aroma with caramel, hints of liquorice and delicate dried fruity notes (prunes). Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a calm carbonation. Solid roast-malty base with caramel, molasses and shy fruity notes; sweet and moderately roasty finish with a light but present alcohol. Reminds me of a decent dark Bock (24.05.08).
