Poured to a dark brown with hints of ruby, and a thin off-white head with little lacing. Aroma was mostly chocolate and malt. Although I did not think this was a smoke beer, that is by far the most dominant flavor I got from this thin-bodied beer, along with a hint of choclate. Finish was mostly a watery, smoky after-taste. I was looking forward to this, but was quite disappointed.

Bottle. Deep-red/brown color. Creamy, off-white head. Good lacing. Light smell of sweet malt, dark bread, dried fruit, caramel, brown sugar and nuts. Smells a little bit like a belgian ale. The taste is sweet malt, caramel/toffee, toast, fruit, some yeast. Light bitterness and a bit smoky as well. Creamy and well balanced. High drinkability for such a high alcohol%. Tastes better if it´s not served too cold.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a thin head of long duration over a clear copper body.....nose is malts, with sweet caramel overtones....tastes of malts, with some mild sweetness flowing through, there is a bit of mouldy flavor drifting through, probably terroir...mouth feel is creamy....over all it is typical of the style and a nice balancing of the many malt flavors.

500 mL bottle. Pours a deep red with a small beige head. Aroma is of caramel malt, molasses, red licorice, and toffee. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, with some sawdust in there. Velvety, smooth mouthfeel. Sort of unpleasant, dry, saw-dust aftertaste. Drinkable and enjoyable. But weak sauce for a wee heavy.

Off taps Capital Ale House. Slight aroma of carmelized malts. Clear amber brown with very small white fine head. Malty flavor of caramel malts with a touch of raison, fruit, and earthy hops. Medium light body. Finish is fairly dry with a bit of residual sweetness and a bit of the hop bitterness. Extremely drinkable

A really lovely color and good light tan head start off this scots brew. Aroma is nicely malted, but a bit too light. Flavor is full and rich, with a nice malt character, as well.

THOUGHTS: Nice and malty, but not cloying. Rather British too. Nice, but nothing special. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark, reddish brown with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was nice, but a little weak. There was grain and caramel malts, apple, red wine, slight alcohol, tea, slight bourbon and spices. The flavor started very sweet and finished sweet and a little bitter with an average duration. There was caramel malt, apple, cherry, slight alcohol, raisin, a little bit of metallic hops and maybe some spices. The medium body was a little oily with tingly carbonation and a metallic and lightly alcoholic finish.
