Belhaven Wee Heavy has a rich deep flavor. A beer to be sipped, savoured and fully respected.

Ok last Scottish beer of this weekend..to celebrate the Portland Highland Games. Belhaven always a fav of mine back in Scotland. This beer is extremelly attractive ..a dark brown almost mahogany colour with a large off white creamy/frothy head..it goes down somewhat but it stays in reduced form till the bottom of the glass. Very fresh , slightly smoky malt aroma..very nice. apart from the expected yet well dome malt sweetness.later i detect, smoked peat, dark fruits like prunes and figs,Scottish "tablet"( a candy),a slight hint of hops and some very nice alcohol..warmth in the mid throat. Very nice and smooth on the palte despite the array of flavours. A very good Scotch Ale perhaps the best,,very drinkable indeed. If only I could get this in a 12 pack my Oregon winters would be so much brighter!

Dark chocolatey brown colour with some orange tinges. Medium size tan coloured head that had fine beading and lasted the distance. Rich chocolate, cocoa and coffee malt aromas. Flavour was quite complex, caramel, a touch of smokey peat, broth, liquorice, dried fruit, chocolate, plenty of flavours but not quite as filling as you would think. Anyhow when I tried this over a year ago I didnít think much of it but now I reckon it is more to my liking. Cheers.

Dark amber colour with a thick tan coloured head. Very malty aroma/flavour. Cola and other acidic characteristics. Faint citrus. Flavour is quite sweet as well with a warming alcoholic finish.

Very dark reddish amber with a sweet malty earthy aroma. Nice matly flavours with some smokeyness. For a wee heavy itís not particularily heavy or alcoholic.

I thought this was pretty weak- the caramel, rotten fruit and detergent aroma precedes so many a mediocre beer. The body was quite sweet but was overwhelmed by apple peel which I donít think works well with this kind of beer. There did appear to be some peat or tannins, a touch of wood, and caramel, but these notes were drowned out by the apple peel. Call me Maluscontent.

I donít see (or taste) whats so freakiní "heevy" about this beer. In fact I found it to be rather flacid. The flavors are light and quite dull. No malt, hops or twigs and berries to set things off. A little smoky. Aroma was nearly non-existent. Quite boring, actually.

(on bottle) All in all Iīm diaspointed over this one from Belhaven. Therīs no trace of tar, earth, heat or any other scotch-carataristics in eitherthe very full malted atse or the dry-fruit-sweet aroma. the taste goes on to become even more sweet to the end of the drink and does not at all go well with a heavy alcohol bitter aftertaste.

This offering has a little bite to it, but not so much that you canít enjoy every ounce of its malty goodness. One of my faves.

500 ml bottle. Great looking ale; I dig the heavy glass bottle and the lion(?) on the label. Pours with a persistent thick foamy head. Great malty and bready aroma, but a bit thin on flavor, body, and taste.

Pors with a nice frothy head; ruby colored body; cookie, caramel, toffe, and nutty flavor; A tasty, lightter bodied wee with a nice sweet malt base, woody background and slight smoke flavor. Notch it all up a bit and it would be great.
