Bottle. Dark caramel color with a thin head. Light aroma of caramel with a hint of floral hops. At first you get a thick mouthfeel, but in your mouth its a bit lighter. Very smooth. Caramel, brown sugar, roasted marshmellow flavors. finishes dry. Don’t think its as good as its overall rating suggests.

A fine Scotch ale, although not equal to its buildup in these pages. Nice fruity front, ruby red in color, right amount of malt, slight chemical feel.

bottled. Filtered dark ruby brown with a large but short lived head. Aroma is of caramel, toast and chocolaty malt, strangly reminded me of cola. Toasty, woody, smokey and choclatey with slight plummy and raisiny character. Spicy/pepperish dry roast bitterness. nicely complex with a reasnoble body.

Enjoyable scotch ale that shows caracter and restraint. Malty but not too sweet. Full bodied, thick in the mouth but not oily. A bit peaty, maybe a touch of iodine. Pleasant.

50cL Bottle, 04/13.04 Reddish teakwood color beneath a massive brown head leaving a sheet of lace. Aromas of smoke, maple swamp, plum, caramel. Mouthfeel is thick, syrupy, velvet smooth and deliciously creamy--but there is an ever-so-slight dry astringency to the finish. The flavors are richly malty, cherry, plum, some earth (that must be the peat?), and a touch of bitterness. This beer makes me want to try more Scotch Ales.

One finger off white head. Color was a dark amber/medium brown. Taste is slightly creamy with hints of malt, smoke and fruit. Finish was a little dirty, and left an odd aftertaste that was not good, but was not offensive either.

Ruby bronze color with a tan head and light lacing. The aroma is very sweet with spices & sage along with a nice balance of hops and alcohol. The flavor is very unique and bites with a good bit of alcohol and creamy roastiness. Finishes with a nice brown sugar/molasses end.

Pours a brilliantly clear and crisp mahogany/red copper. A nice dense tan head quickly formed and retained fairly well fed by a continuous sprinkle of small CO2 bubbles. Body had a relatively smooth texture that was interrupted by a fizzy CO2 burn. I'm not sure whether I liked the contrast or not. Malty/fruity sweet aromas seem to dominate and fit somewhere in the cherry/vanilla cola world. Carmel, maybe woody/sherry but not smokey. Palate compliments the aromas well, but only with a general sweetness and mild bitterness. The short finish is my only slight criticism of this one.
