3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The Wee Heavy pours out a rich, medium red. Average sized creamy head, lasted a fair time. Nice clear body. The first scent I picked up from it was must - it smelled a bit old, and the taste confirmed it. It has a nice light malty flavour, seems a bit toasted to me. Good finish, very easy going down. I'd give it higher points if it didn't have that slight musky flavour and smell, and my bottle also tasted a little soured.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite OK. Slight caramelly aroma, slight hint of smokiness. Palate is quite sweet, but a balanced sweetness. Malty, raisiny, peaty, caramelly, a bit peppery towards the finish. Probably one of the better Scottish ales i've had (behind Traquair House Ale).

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2003 Rather than describe in detail, I'll say it's quite caramely and smokey. Catch it before it turns porky.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium orange-brown. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), with a light note of plum, hint of smoke. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, creamy and velvety texture, lively carbonation. Outstanding mouthfeel and a pleasant flavor balance make this enjoyable to drink, but the aroma is pretty light and uninteresting.

Mahogany in color with a tiny white head. Smells like alcohol, malt and caramel. Taste like caramel and toasted malts. Gets a nutty flavor the more it warms.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A deep brown with a haze of auburn running through when held up to the light. An off white head that is now diminished and just clinging around the edges of the glass. A rich malt aroma that hints at sweet chocolate and caramel. A medium body that fills the mouth nicely. A touch astringent. The flavor is not as sweet as the aroma suggests. A toasty, malty flavor with some caramel. A bit bitter and dry in the finish. A touch metallic in the aftertast that is not real bad. The sweetness emerges, of course, as it warms with some nuttiness.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a masterpiece!!! The best beer from UK! It is candy. Nice malty and caramelly. Licorice is very dominating. It is roasted and extemely complex! When you get through the bottle you imidiately want more! This is perhaps the best evidence that a beer is great, and this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is divine!!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark amber--almost black. Roasted, coffeish aroma and taste. Sweet dry finish. Alittle raisiny. Not a bad ale, but I didn't fall in love with it.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: Pours dark dark amber/red, looks brown until you put it to a light. Medium foamy beige-brown head, short lasted though. Sweet malty aroma with hints of coffee/roasted grains in it. Nice malty flavour with a bitter aftertaste, hint of chocolate and roasted grains in there. Mouthfeel was smooth, could of been a bit more full though. Not worth the price IMO.
