UPDATED: APR 5, 2003 doesn't seem very wee. like, i'd be pretty worried if my wee was this colour, i.e. a nice deep mahogany. expected something sweet and sickly from the malty nutella smell but got a great dry, peaty, medicinal, spicy, warming scotch ale. more bitter than i expected too. really complex aftertaste of fernet and cointreau cocktail. not quite up there with jacobite but damn close. RERAte: a bit too lard-textured for me.

Sweet and smooth..very nice for once in awhile. You get a slight hint of the smokey flavor, but not much....overall taste is alittle to weak for me.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2003 Sweet, malty, smokey flavors. A bit too sweet in my opinion. Nice aroma. A bit weak on the palate.

The aroma consisted of caramel malt. Tannish white head sitting on a body of ruby amber. A smokey, sweet, malty flavor with a bit of butter. Smooth with medium mouthfeel. Overall I thought there was too much peat smokiness. I love smoked beers but this didn't quite do it for me.

lots of malt in the aroma, caramelly. there is definitely smokyness in the aroma as well and i think there is a hint of sherry due to oxidation in there too. this is a thick dark brown beer with a hint of red, a tan head and very good retention. the flavor is full of smoke, lots of smoke, did i mention that i am not a fan of lots of smoke. other than that there is a good malty basis, no hops seem to be present either for bittering or flavor. this is a thick full bodied beer with low carbonation, it seemed to roll right down my thoat. very smooth beer.

Dark brown with some red and foamy head. Smells malty with peat and smoke, along with slight caramel sweetness. Nice smokey malt flavor without being too sweet. Very earthy with some nut flavors as well. All in all, a fine beer.

Only had the bottled stuff unfortunately. A smooth burn taste. Kinda aftertaste similar to a true stout. Excellent dark reddish colour. Like this. Damn those Scots know do what they are doing (ocassionally). Plenty of these next visit to the bottleshop. Gets smoother as you drink. Or fuzzier. or something. ohhhh. Smells quite malty with a bitterish edge. Quite mellow. No’ a trace o’ Humulus lupulus (wat a wanka!).

Fine pint of malty, sedimented brown elixir. Hops add subtle grassy fragance. Smells and aromas of molasses, raisins, prunes, iron, vanilla, caramel. Excellent example of a Scottish ale. Very well balanced and smooth. Finish is very smooth mildly sweet and clean.
