3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark amber-brown colour. Nutty, slightly chocolatey and slightly fruity aroma with a flavour to match. Surprising thin bodied for a beer of this strength and flavour. Tastes slightly burnt. It needs more body and depth.

Im not a big fan of the barley wine taste, but this beer has a lot to offer. This stuff comes at you from start to finish. Nice color in a glass. Hops were nowhere to be found. The malt is all you taste. Alcohol isnít too overpowering. I liked this beer overall but prefer other Belhavens.

An absolutely huge malty beer. Tastes like a great barley wine less the hops. This is a beer you should enjoy when your not planning on eating anytime soon ícause itíll fill you up. For the first time in my life I couldnít finish the dozen wings I ordered at the bar and itís ícause this bad boy filled me up somethiní aweful!

Bright red color and weak head. Sweet and malty aroma and taste. Medium bodied. Like other Belhaven beers, but in a less marked degree, ends smoky and toasty.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2003 Bottled. Mahogany coloured with beige head. Rich, smokey aroma with notes of caramel. Sweet and very malty with flavours of licorice and peat. Soft mouthfeel. Notes of crystalized sugar in a finish with medium bitterness.

This beer definitely tastes better when it warms a bit. Color is a bit light. Malty and chewy are the positives. It does lack, however, some of the toasty malty goodness found in others. But what do I know, this is a Scottish Ale that has been around for many years.

Lightest Wee Heavy that Iíve had. Taste was too dominated by yeast/bread with some smoke coming in at the end

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 7, 2006 Clear rye. Creamy off-white foam. Buttery caramel notes mixed with moss and lightly candied malts. Malts are lightly meaty and powdery. Hints of banana, plum, and juicy, round hop notes. Soft, round mouthfeel yet fairly toffeeish. Starts with sticky candied malts and a flash of earthy peat. Lovely raisiny and plummy malt tones infused with candy and leather engage at the center. Malts later become immensely bready and flavorsome and are deepened by a touch of medicine. Resounding powdery malt notes at the finish along with a touch of plum, lavender, and black cherry. Textbook balance. Maltheads will enjoy this to no end.
