Belhaven Wee Heavy has a rich deep flavor. A beer to be sipped, savoured and fully respected.

Pours a dark reddish amber, almost mahogany. Frothy head that dissipated quickly. Rich roasted malts. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Caramel, molasses, hints of oak. A nice Scottish ale.

Pours clear ruby red with a 1-finger bone-colored head. Aroma mixes notes of caramel and biscuit malts. Medium body, very slightly syrupy with a dry finish. Flavor of caramel malt with peaty and biscuity notes.

Tap. Huge, very creamy ivory head. Clear deep amber. Huge lasting head keeps aromas for mouth. Smooth and creamy, malty and bitter. Lovely, classic, balanced super ale!

As Belhaven 90/- Wee Heavy. Very classic Scotch ale with pale yellowish beige, medium, lacing head, breaking rather quickly, and dark wine red colour, transparent with good sparkling. Malt sweet aroma of hazelnut paste, toffee, plum brandy, caramel candy, cookies, medlar, brown sugar, ripe pear, some subtle varnish-like solvents, damp cellar and a hint of iron, though not disturbingly so. Taste begins restrainedly fruity, raisins, eldeberries, candied figs, sweet but not cloying, with soft carbonation and smooth, lightly oily, very malty but not very thick palate, caramelly and a bit nutty with bitterish toasted accent in the end, where it is supported by a subtle, earthy and leafy hop bitterishness and warming, rhum-like alcohol, with a drying, slightly astringent effect, but remaining in place. Pleasant, warming ale and indeed typical for its style, though I had expected a thicker body and more roasted bitterness.

A moderate amount of malt sweetness on the aroma with light notes of fruitless. A crystal clear dark Amber appearance with an offwhite head with below average head retention. Flavor is malt forward with notes of biscuit, toast and dark caramel. Fruity esters are moderately high. Finish is dry. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, it's labeled as a wee heavy and a 90 schilling, but it's definitely not a wee heavy. It's a 90 schilling. It also has a little too much toast flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Toffee malty aroma. No hops on the nose. Appearance is a deep amber with a long lasting white head. Crystal clear. Flavor is heavy on kettle caramelized toffee notes. No hop flavor or esters. Mouthfeel is smooth and full with medium a carbonation. Overall, a classic wee heavy, but the malt flavor is one dimensional. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a review of Belhaven 90/~ Wee Heavy - a different formulation with 7.4% ABV. 330ml bottle pours deep red-amber with a durable and creamy tan head. Fine looking but the aroma is a bit disappointing with too much alcohol evident and bearing more resemblance to a dopplebock than it should. The flavor veers in that direction too, rather than favoring smoky or peaty malts. Lots of toffee and brown sugar here.
