Belhaven Wee Heavy has a rich deep flavor. A beer to be sipped, savoured and fully respected.

I found this one to be too weak and flowery, then malty and dry. Too thin and too much hoppiness, not enough carmel-roasted malt! Still overall it was decent. I prefer their regular scots ale.

0,5l bottle from Brittish Store, Budapest. Clear, dark amber color with medium, off-white head, which disappears quickly. Strong, intensive odor with alcohol. Interesting aroma with smoke, alcohol, roasted malt. It’s remind me to a roasted pork, very unique and interesting. It has a smoky barrel flavour too, and it’s a bit resiny and oily. Medium sweet taste. Medium body, creamy, oily texture, soft carbonation. Long, sweet, roasted malty finish. It’s a bit like German smoked beers. I’m sure, it contains smoked malt. Not a very drinkable one, strong, alcoholly one, only for special events.

Smak och doft av plommon, russin, knäck, malt och mörkt bröd. Ölet är fylligt och relativt sött men har en fin balans.

Pours brown with a hint of red....off-white foamy head. Slightly skunky initially, malt aromas, caramel. Taste is sweet, rich,....toffee/caramel/sugar. A wonderful ale. Very tasty.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before April 2009, drank in Feb 2008. Poured into a Gordon Xmas thistle shaped glass (twice). Lovely red mahogany colour, clear and clean looking, with an off white foaming head. No huge aroma, some caramel sweetness and banana toffee smells. Yeast is also present along with toasted malts. If you’ve never had a Scotch Ale before this will hit you fairly hard. Rich roasted peat, loads of heavily malted barley give it an interstingly different taste to most other beers from the UK. Well crafted and just enough body to allow the flavours to linger in the mouth. I would have liked a litle more alcohol if possible, but without it taking over completely. Very, very drinkable and a beer I wholehartedly recommend for the first time Scotch Ale drinker. If only the nose had been better.

Bottle, poured a copper brown color, medium head. Aroma of caramel malts. A medium light sweetness. Creamy palate. Soft carbonation. Very smooth throughout with a bitter nip finish. Has a distinct flavor which perhaps comes the water they use. Good stuff.

Everybody has said just about the same things, so I’ll just add: I like this beer. I like it better than the regular Belhaven Scottish Ale. Smooth and full flavored.

On tap, poured a light dark red color, with aromas of caramel, touch of hops, and some brown sugar. Flavor is the same with a slightly sweet finish, don’t know if I would have this one again, not my beer style of choice.

500 ml Bottle. Had to compare this to some of the recent Scotch Ales / Wee Heavy’s I’ve had. The clear glass bottle worried me a bit but it was fine. Red / amber liquid with thin white head into a stem glass. Caramel malt, sugar and a hint of peat. I had no expectations and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. Flavors of caramel, molasses, toffee, oak notes and although it’s sweet, it still is balanced real well. Mouthfeel has a syrupy, sticky feel. Overall real solid and for the price; this is a good buy.

500ml bottle - pours as amber as it gets with tan head. Nose is skunky from a mile away like a Kronenbourg at a picnic. At close range, it smells of mild hops (like a pilsner). Flavor adds caramel, bread, toffee and raisins. taste is sweet. There is a smoky/oaky aftertaste. tastes too much like stale, cheap candy.
