4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fine pint of malty, sedimented brown elixir. Hops add subtle grassy fragance. Smells and aromas of molasses, raisins, prunes, iron, vanilla, caramel. Excellent example of a Scottish ale. Very well balanced and smooth. Finish is very smooth mildly sweet and clean.

Backlog, tried bottled a number of times. About as archetypical for the style as any beer i’ve had, a solid ale.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml clear bottle bought at Oliver’s The Delicatessen in Central.
Clear, deep amber brown colour; Three quarter finger head and soapy off white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and quite fizzy carbonation; Light and sweet aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, sugar, light nuts and faint dark fruits; Pleasant medium sweet taste of dark malt, with brown sugar, light caramel, sticky toffee, molasses, light lemon and pretty grass hops; Light body, thin and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is nice sweet Dunkel in a pretty rich body. Not much nuts or smoke but strong on brown sugar, caramel and toffee, which feel sticky and nice! Sweetness is not cloying, nothing too extreme, very easy going. Pretty nice!... Hoppiness is no nose, light lemon and notable grassyhops in taste. Low-fi bitterness works okay with sweetness for a abrupt sweet-bitter finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: Luckily my bottle wasn’t skunked so I can enjoy this brew thoroughly. I wouldn’t say this is heavy or massive, as its aroma is pretty light weight as best, its body is light, and not much in taste varieties, but it has pretty wholesome palate, sweetness is well-arranged, some naughty toffee reminds me of enjoying sticky hard handy as a kid. It really feels like a well-made and satisfying Dunkel. Easily enjoyable!

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Deep amber with small head. Why the fuck is this sold in a clear bottle? I guess they want it to be skunked. This could have been excellent. Rich caramel malt and full flavor. Can’t get past the enormous skunkiness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
DATE TASTED: February 20, 2014... GLASSWARE: Victory Nonick... OCCASION: a beer much sought after... APPEARANCE: dark brown body that displays HUGE chunks of sediment--been sitting too long? thick, chunky off-white head offers formidable lacing... AROMA: brilliant buttery, big malt aroma with dampened caramel and candy sugars; somewhat earthy, grainy but difficult to lay a nostril to...PALATE: smooth, thin and mellow--the mouth is refreshed as much as it’s engaged; slightly warming as the glass drains...TASTE: sweet and malty; a brown ale’s subtlety with fleeting fervor--a bit of barleywine funk at the end; low to no hop impression... OVERALL: the initial shock of floating substance (something I had not dealt with since the "claw" incident in Heavy Seas’ Saison art the shore a decade ago) still makes this review tainted; I have little doubt this rates better than I afforded it, but to rate authentically, I cannot be betray the experience itself...I may have to find another distributor to ascertain the true quality of this beer...

Bottle to an English pint (did not have a thistle glass). Deep ruby red with a medium head and faint lacing. Has a taste of toffee and caramel. The body is medium heavy and a very smooth mouthfeel. Very good!

A chocolatly co2aroma come from this deep red clear brew with a off white head. A mediummbody of sweetness and co2 and an aftertaste of chocolate. Not a bad brew kinda what ive expected.

I enjoyed the malt mixture. The beer tasted semi-sweet and sort of creamy. It’s an enjoyable sipping kind of beer, sort of how you’d enjoy wine.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Clear dark amber pour with a deep dark ruby hue. Nice frothy head and lacing that lasts. Nose is of biscuit malt, a slight sweetness and a touch of dark malt. Also present is a touch of what strikes me as EKG hops. Heavy medium bodied with a rich creamy mouthfeel against a slightly below normal carbonation level. The flavor profile is well balanced and complex. It begins with a dark malt sweetness that hints of raisins and plums, progresses to molasses and ends with a biscuit sweetness that floods the palate. The finish is very smooth and ends with a residual sweetness against a slight hop and alcohol tingle with just a hint of smoke. This is the standard against which other Scottish ales much be judged, and it is outstanding.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20

33cl bottle poured in a Trappist glass. Pouring a mahogany colour with a small amount of off-white head. Low carbonation. Quite a sweet taste with hints of toffee, fruit cake and malt. Quite a simple beer that is reminiscent of English barley wines.
