VeloVampire (400), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 30, 2006 Updated: Dec 10, 2006 500 ml bottle - pours dark copper, almost ruby, with rocky off white head that lasts. Aroma very malty with some nice spice in there - perhaps clove or nutmeg. Some dark fruits as well, and a rich fresh bread smell. Lots going on in the aroma. Very smooth mouthfeel, little carbonation, and a repeat of the notes that came out in the nose, although with the addition of some bittering hops, and that rye-breadiness again. A bit of alcohol in there, but nicely integrated. Not a huge finish, but that’s not what this beer’s about. A very nice surprise.

Svesse (1818), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit, roasted grain and brown sugar. Malty, nutty taste with notes of toffee, caramel and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Nicely balanced. Medium to full body. Very nice beer. Tiny_Tim (21), Perth, Australia Oct 4, 2008 Poors very brown colour, not too dark, with a nice robust creamy head. The aroma is pleasant and oakey, with a very sweet honey or molasses edge. The flavour is strong, malty, not too sweet, and the alcohol is well concealed. It is very well balanced. Extremely enjoyable. Imperial-John (99), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2008 500ml bottle. Clear reddish brown with off-white foamy head that thins quickly. Woody, raisin wine aroma. Bubbly, dry raisin wine cooler taste with a clean aftertaste. Very smooth, hides alcohol well but very light on taste. This is the 2nd bottle I’ve had and after having it on tap I expected much much more. It’s tap or nothing for this one.
