Bottle. Deep-red/brown color. Creamy, off-white head. Good lacing.
Light smell of sweet malt, dark bread, dried fruit, caramel, brown sugar and nuts. Smells a little bit like a belgian ale.
The taste is sweet malt, caramel/toffee, toast, fruit, some yeast. Light bitterness and a bit smoky as well. Creamy and well balanced. High drinkability for such a high alcohol%. Tastes better if itīs not served too cold.

Sep 7, 2008 Pours really well in the Orval trappist chalice. Bif creay head, just off-white, and a slightly murky maroon / brown body. Nose shows some stewed fruits, some caramel and perhaps a slight metallic, the latter not a bad thing. Heavy malts to taste, much weight than the nose might suggest. More hot fruits and some rhubarb (almost Belgian-like in this respect) along with a savoury cinnamon hint. Some scotch ale-esque colar flavours to finish. Actually shows a fair chunk of complexity, and came up a lot better than I expected. Must be the best Belhaven beer I’ve had to date.

Sep 5, 2008 bottle, nut brown pour with small foamy head, malty caramel nose, nice matly flavors of caramel , malt and subdued smoke or peat, finish is nicely dry

Sep 2, 2008 Bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a deep dark brown-amber body with a small beige head. Mildly sweet and not spicy enough. I was mildly disappointed with this beer, but it was overall a nice product. A bit one-dimensional and lacking somplexities. Some toastiness and nuttiness, but not rich enough or smoky enough.

Aug 31, 2008 I like this beer. the spices infuse the palate with gregerious temptations to persue more. The hops bring the malt to full effect asking for a more fulfilled endeavor to what lies ahed. Nice
