In France, in general, the unemployed will drink the lower alcohol beers for €0.50 a can or so at the supermarkets. It’s generally the teenagers, who need to get trashed quick, that is the target market of these atrocities which are still quite cheap but incredibly high alcohol. Pours a reliable syrup-gold colour with a solid pillow of head that isn’t moving too fast. Aroma is corn, citrus, alcohol. Taste is boot leather, sour caramel, with that bitter aftertaste you would expect from a brew like this. But all of that said, it’s not the worst example I’ve found.

Can in Paris. Clear, rich gold pour with a weak, white head. Sugary malts on the nose, hints of caramel. Sweet flavor, faintly toasty malts, plenty of sugar. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, sugar to spare, light yeast and candi. For a strong pale lager this is about as good as it gets.

Can from a grocer in Paris. Yellow pour, fizzy white head. Cheap sweet sugars, corn, and alcohol. Blech, bad, but not the worst of these.

Can 50Cl at Cora. A yellow clear beer with small head. Quite sweet medium to low malty, high carbonation, some acidity at the end. This beer is very classic for this kind of products, just sugar and alcohol, very basic stuff, disappointing, no real aroma.
