5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Old 75cl bottle from over 25 years old - served in the original and equally old glass. Cellar aged and extremely rare! A gusp of CO2 escapes on opening : a good sign. Pours a slightly murky amber with small fluffy head. Woody aromas with barnyears, grass and little hints of cork (ofcourse, all these years been lying flat in the cellar). The sour lambic taste is corkless though! Balanced sour character accompanied by a full melasse sugar body with aftertastes of passion fruit and cedar. Amazing! In no way comparable with the younger Belle-vue gueuzes! This one is a gem!

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: AUG 22, 2014 Classic ’capsulekensgeuze’, the fake geuze imitations which almost wiped out the traditional ’old’ geuzes. Thin, off-white, irregular head, colour a deep orangey blonde, almost amber, cristal clear with gentle sparkling. Aroma of vanilla, melon, marzipan, biscuit, lemon juice, butter, orange peel, sorrel, cookies, minerals and the typical ’dead’, cooked smell of a pasteurized ale. Taste a soft sweetishness in onset, citrus, apple, strong carbonation, smooth and thinnish mouthfeel, buttery and caramelly, accompanied by a mild lemony acidity that gets a bit stronger towards the end, with a drying effect; finish also with a faint hint of grassy hops, quickly fading away. Lambic character is subdued, this beer clearly consists mainly of top-fermented ale. It is a matter of politics that this type of sweetened, diluted, pasteurized products is still allowed to be called ’geuze’ in Belgium as it is far away from ’the real thing’ and I honestly hope that one day, AB InBev and other producers of it will be forced to apply another name to it, even if it were only ’industrial geuze’ or ’pasteurized geuze’ or something like that.

Bottle. Pours amber with a white head. Vanilla fudge, grapes. Light sweet and bitter, medium sour. I’m not yet familiar with the style, and found this quite ok.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Aroma of fruits, sugar, light tart fruit. Flavour is more sweet than sour, very disappointing, artificial candy. This has little to do with Gueuze and I find it offensive that this beer carries that name.

Bottle 25cl, Nose is on toasted vanilla !? A quite sweet lambic with kind of caramel, low sourness, light brett touch, background astringency. Not outstanding.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle from Dranken Geers. Fruity, buttery and nutty smell. Sweet taste with some ripe fruit, nuts and butterscotch. Not sure wh they label this as a gueuze as it tastes nothing like it. The butter (diacetyl?) is not to my liking.
