,33l somehow found on the shelves in Belgrade. Sweet, proper ’macro’ kriek with tart sweet cherries and proper dark rose appearance. Taste is wise but not entirely there. Cute and tasty but not fully developed or complex. Happy to have something like this around for sure. May 14, 2013.

250ml bottle as the alias “La Becasse Kriek” bought at CitySuper in New Town Plaza, Shatin;

Clear deep ruby red colour; Half finger head and off -white foam which fades in 1 minute; Small sticky lacing with notable carbonation; Pleasantly tart aroma of cherry, cherry juice, sparkling white wine and sugar syrup; Strong tart taste of cherry, dry white wine, light malt, light yeast, and hint of citrus; Light body, dry and thin palate;Taste profile is dominated by pretty tart light cheery and white wine, minimal sweetness; Hoppiness is zero nose, faint note of citrus, and barely detectable astringency. Finish is quite nice tartness; Dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: A middle-pack Kriek, with pretty nice, if somewhat artificial, cherry nose, appropriate tartness and very low sweetness, yet too carbonated (I was burping while drinking it) and its wine taste not really special. Okay-ish, but not something I would recommend.

Tap at Abbot’s Choice, Tokyo. Amber-red colour with a white head. Aroma of cherries, fruit, tart. Flavour is heavy with cherries, somewhat sour.

The closest approximation to this beer is the St Louis kriek. This one is slightly better, a bit less cloying with a pungent aroma of fruit and alocohol.

A can from Asahiya. It poured a nice light ruby red with a pinkish white head of foam which vanished leaving behind lots of lacing. The aroma is a nice cherry one and the flavor is nicely sweet & tart with a good mouth feel. After that it starts to slowly lose points as the aftertaste is fairly sour & mildly syrupy. A good widely available Kriek which made me reminisce about my visit to Brussels...

UPDATED: APR 5, 2013 I am not very fond of Fruit beer but this one was a surprise because of its consistency in flavour and aroma, carbonation and head. A good beer when you are tired of the regular ones.

Draft at the Brussels Beer Cafe, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a deep raspberry red, with a thin white broken head and lots of lace. The aroma is of bitter fruit as one might expect. The flavour is of raspberries, a little sour with sweet notes on the palate and a smooth pleasant aftertaste. Too sweet and not sour enough for me. Nice to taste, but more than one glass would be a little sickly and I feel might hasten my next dental appointment!

Bouteille 330ml.
