4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MrRoss (646) - Delta, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 7, 2009
Poured with a rich light red colour and a carbonated pink head; thought I’d opened up a champagne. Aroma is mildly cherry, and taste is also of cherries, but not overly sweet. Crisp, clean tasting.

Bright scarlet in colour under a pinky-white head. This isn’t just red, it’s RED! Completely overwhelming aroma of unripe cherries with a little bit of an armpit britannomyces undernote. Sour cherry flavours with a cherry brandy element. Not a favourite if I’m honest and I was expecting much more.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2007 Tasted 2007-07-24. Fresh bottle, 25cl. Clear red colour and light red foam. Aroma and taste of sweet cherries, red fruit juice and a little acid. IMO it lacks a bit in the acid department and it’s too sweet and boring. Maybe it’s a good beginner kriek?

tart sickly sweet syrup cherry. This isn’t even a good tart like leifmans, or a goody cherry like quelquechose. Full of itself.

Crisp cherry nose. Deep maroon colour with a decent white foamy head. Cherryade flavour with a delicate acidity and malty, oaky, ironish tones.

On tap at St. Alexandre pub in Quebec City. Poured deep cherry red with a matching aroma. The scent led me to belive this was going to be too sweet. Upon tasting, I was pleasantly surprised of the balance between sweetness and tartness. It wasn't as cloying as Lindemans, or as raw as Cantillon - good stuff. I'd imagine multiple pints of this might get to the cloying stages, so this mught be best to begin or end an evening.

375 ml Bottle: I’m glad to see that I don’t hate lambics, I just hate Chapeau Exotic. The bottle is excellent with a cool cork top, and it pours great. Nice thick head with a ruby red body, very little visual carbonation. Aroma heavy in cherries, but quite pleasant. More carbonation in the taste, with heavy cherry flavour imparted with a very delicate lager-style backing. I’m actually quite impressed with this as far as the style goes, I’d have one again. Probably a good one during the summer heat, but perhaps not at the price.
