3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mcberko (4053) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 10, 2013
1999 Vintage. 750mL bottle at DHVL, pours a cloudy night orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of tart dry apricot skins, and classic barnyard funk -- wonderful aromatics. Flavour brings out tart apricots, some grape skins, and medium funk. Moderate funky quality for a gueuze with a very higher than average acidity. Finishes fairly tart, with the funky quality no less pronounced and huge acidity. No sign of the age at 14 years old. Wonderful stuff, though not my favourite style of gueuze with all the sourness and intense acidity. Actually becomes overburdeningly acidic the more you drink, forcing me to lower the rating a bit. Still, quality stuff.

Rating #2400! 1999 bottle @ DHVL. Split with Deeblo. The pour’s hazy amber orange with a tiny white head. The nose is relatively faint. A bit of ribbon candy, musty barnyard wild yeast. Pollen. Building lemon juice. The taste is very, very sour. Loads of sour lemon juice. Biting acidity. General citrus notes. More subtle notes of cotton candy and wood. A bit of bile and old running shoe funk. Light body, soft carbonation. Overall, not particularly nuanced, but interesting nonetheless. This beer’s definitely gone nuclear, so have some Tums handy.

1999. Huge thanks to Joe for opening this. A bit of must and basement with fairly-heavy lactic character. Very low carbonation but fairly smooth. Quite dry and very sour.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Huhzubendah (1980) - Washington DC, USA - APR 5, 2013
1999 vintage shared BucketBoy. Thanks Joe!
The beer is golden with a small white head. The aroma offers well water, mineral, funky citrus, musty basement. The flavor is brash and aggressive. Incredibly acetic and forward. Wow. What a bold and complex beer. A lambic that stands apart. Palate coating and sharp acetic finish. Lingering tartness and pucker. So good. A rare delicacy for the lambic connoisseur. I’m so glad I have a few more ounces to savor. Highly recommended. Wow.

1999, thanks Mac! Lemon citrus galore, some rhind in the background, puckering sourness is relentless. Funk is oddly missing for a gueuze: this is a one-trick pony with lemon juice front and center. Even the dregs don't bring the funk, but man is that citrus tasty.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kramer (3875) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear dark gold with zero head, not much pop on the cork, minimal to no visible carbonation. The nose is very acetic and sharp with a good bit of funkiness and some slightly cheesy notes. The flavor is especially bitingly acetic, a little over the top for me. This is some rot you esophagus out acidity. If there was any subtlety to this beer, it’s long gone. Bone dry and bracing with a light touch of carbonation remaining. This was OK, but I probably couldn’t have finished a whole bottle by myself. I like my Gueuze a little softer and funkier.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 thome50 (573) - Boringville aka Irvine, California, USA - FEB 10, 2013
1999 bottle shared at Woodshop 7. Pours a hazy yellow to orange with no head. Loads of barnyard and another good example of horse blanket. Funk is strong in this one with a little lemon and cheese rind. Thin in the taste with straw, lemon zest, lactic acid, vinegar in a mild form and some more funk. Overall, this held up really well, thanks for sharing!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Plovmand (5711) - Helsinge, DENMARK - FEB 8, 2013
Bottle at Surt med Chris Anker. 1999 vintage. Pours hazy golden orange with a small white head. The aroma is barnyard, wheat, acid, citrus and light hay. Very acidic flavour. Citrus, grapefruit, barnyard, vinegar, lemon and barnyard. Long sour acidic finish. Wow!
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 dudebun (104) - GERMANY - DEC 15, 2012
Amazing beer. Smells very sweet, almost vanilla but then the barny notes take over. The taste is like a red and brown like sweet and sour... So amazing. 1999, bottle number 06676. If you see this buy it. If you have this, drink it. Life changing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jbeatty (504) - New York, USA - NOV 17, 2012
Bottle, 1999 vintage, 11/17/2012. For a gueuze, pours an amazing dark orange amber, but absolutely still. Aroma is quite musty with a lot of wood, heavy funk, a bit of acetone character, with tart lime, orange, lemon, vinegar- this opens up with a bit more fruitiness as it warms. Taste sour, acetic, quite bracing and puckering as others have described, with citrus and lemon peel, tart tart apples with bitter grapefruit, a bit sweet. Moderate, thick palate. Bit of a letdown, this was too aggressive for my taste.
