3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled (from beerplanet.eu). Ambery brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is dark dry fruits, some toffee, mild roasted notes as well as quite wooden notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some toffee, roasted notes, mild metal as well as wood and some caramel. Actually old ale is a quite good categorization for this Belgian beer...

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2011 The color is black. The foam is medium high.
Aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate and some coffee and licorice. Same notes are repeated in the taste. Body is light, mouthfeel is smooth.
There is certainly not added much sugar in this brew.
Its a light stout, but sometimes its nice with a non imperial beer.
Light and subtle in some situations, can be quite wonderful.
The balance is perfect, and i find it very drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bought at Drankenhandel Geers.
Very, very dark brown beer (or black if you will) with a thick layer of beige-coloured foam. Solid taste of malts, slightly roasted flavour and pleasantly bitter aftertaste. Nose of butterscotch and roasted malts. All in all it weighs a little light but that’s partly due to its low alcohol content (6.3% ABV)

This is the second time I’ve tried it, and I’m glad to say my first impressions were upheld: Brasserie de Bellevaux Black is excellent. It’s super dark, burnt malty and sharply bitter yet somehow smooth at the same time. It has notes of clove, liquorice and mace. The alcohol is not overpowering at 6.3%, but it gives the beer just enough lightness for the delicate tastes to take flight over your tongue

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled 330ml "Malmedy Black" (Beer Planet, BB 11/2011)
Almost opaque dark brown color, thick creamy beige head. Nose has some lemony hoppyness, fruits and malts, but it is quite faint aroma in this beer. Medium-bodied, palate is even watery. Light coffeish notes, berries (strawberry), malts and milk. Finish is a bit lactosy like in some milk stout. Interesting Belgian, but could be more powerful.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2010 Note: the Cuvée Spéciale is being seen as an aliassed beer, so at the bottom my rating for that one.
23/08/2010 - 33cl @ home
Pours a very darkbrown beer (I wouldn’t say black though) with fine light beige and creamy head. Aroma is coffee, burned caramel, chocolate and some smoke. Taste is sweet (sweeter than you would’ve guessed from the aroma) with caramel and dark chocolate. Aftertaste is mocha with some sour at the back of the tongue.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, bought @ EG.
Pours is very, very deep red-brown, looking pitch-black from a small distance. Lovely, staying, creamy, cappucino head. Mild malty and slight sugary sweet aroma, not much of it. Medium to high carbonation, light but very dry mouthfeel. Flavour starts a bit unimpressive, but steadily builds into a good deal of experiences. Tart, astringent malts fit the style well, roasted notes, hazelnuts, dark chocolate in the finish. Long, lingering malty bitter finish. Very interesting.
