Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black. Dry-malty aroma. Starts mild-malty, modest roasty-smokey. Malty notes get more and more intense, also more roasty. Finish dry-roasty, hints of cacao. Not bad!

Martinus (4280) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - AUG 17, 2011
Dark red, almost black beer with firm, lasting, pillowy tan head. Aroma is rather restrained but burned malts, coffee, liquorice, anis and some smoke. Carbonation rather light. Flavour slightly sweet, bitter (burned malts bitter). Coffee, liquorice, some chocolate. Bit of smoke. Bit reminding of a stout too, maybe because of the pillowy head and low carbonation. Finish dry and rather mild, some malty coffee tones linger together with some smoke. Nice one.

Color looks like copper a bit, kind of light amber. Don’t like the smell though the taste isn’t really bad. Medium carbo, low to medium body.

Bottle from Beer Planet. Dark black body with tan puffy head. Nose of malts, caramel, licorice notes. Taste is malty caramel and quickly turns smoke and hamy. Quite nice. Syrupy smooth texture too.

(Bottled, BBE 10/2011) Hazy, very dark brown color with a firm, lasting, tanned and lacy head. Strong aroma of licorice, anise, roasted and smoked malt - even whiskey-like notes. Flavor is roasted-malty and smoky-peaty with sweetish dried-fruitiness. Not too burned or ashy. Medium to full body with quite high CO2. Another success from this brewery. If I could change something, I’d give this a bit more body and lower the CO2 level. But at this ABV level, this is excellent work, comparable to Fuller’s London Porter and Old Engine Oil. 5246

Bottle. Pours black. Tan head. Nose of chlorinated soapy water, smoke, roast chocolate malt, hops and caramel. Taste is dry bitter baker’s chocolate, hops and chlorinated soapy water. Maybe some used coffee grounds. Body drops out of this like a stone. Odd concoction.
