UPDATED: JAN 30, 2010 Re-rating after a much better bottle, also at Moeder Lambic St-Gilles. None of that out-of-place tartness from before. Incredibly roasty but quit dry and quaffable. Simple, honest stout. Grainy tannins are not unwelcome. Phenols are there but subdued. First rate: Bottle at Moeder Lambic. Pours black with tight-laced and very sturdy tan head. Lightly sweetish nose like cola with faint roasted coffee notes. Flavor has some slight lactic tartness and a subtly roasty backdrop, mildly bitter and going quite dry. Medium body, soft and airy carbonation. Pretty light. Interesting and attractive beer but it didn’t hit my sweet spots.
