Had it both at the the brewery, and at home 8 months later, meaning it spent 10-12 months in the bottle. At the brewery, although I do not precisely remember, it was too sweet, and by far not the best beer I had from them. Now, after spending a little time in the bottle, it has certainly mellowed out. Pours brown, with a thick, off white head that diminishes in about 10 minutes to just a lacing on top of the beer. Predominant aromas are burnt sugar, and dates, with a touch of vanilla, and a slight flutter of madeira and wet wood. The palate is sweet but with a good nuttiness. It is a little cheeky and tight, but good. Flavor fades quickly, leaving notes of nutty cheese, and again, wet bark on the palate. The carbonation started strong and then faded. Overall, this is a solid beer, emblematic of the style, and sweet like the Belgians like it, although, I did not find it to be overbearing at all. A beer that would make a great session beer for a poker night. Not necessarily meant to be savored. This beer would pair well with both strong cheeses (like gouda or edam) and mild chocolate with caramel.
