UPDATED: JUN 16, 2013 (Bottled, 6.8% ABV, no BBE, 1/3 of the bottle left after traveling in a cardboard box from Brussels) Muddy brown, not much head (CO2 gone already). Very pleasant and strong aroma with lots of spicy anise and sweetish-syrupy maltiness. Flavor is quite the same with syrupy malt, lots of dried fruit, anise and other spices. Almost full body, not much CO2 left, no alcohol present. Quite sweet, but pleasant and strangely also balanced brew, that would suit the cold Xmas time pretty well. 7237

(Bottled, Malmedy Brune/Lefebvre) Very dark, nutty brown color with a largeish, beige head. Sweetish but somewhat bitter, malty and herby licorice aroma. Malty, quite sweet licorice flavor with a some alcohol and a long, sticky-sugary finish. Medium-bodied, sugary, surprisingly thin, but not watery palate with foamy carbonation. A decent, very licoricey, sweetish and quite carbonated, not very full-bodied brune.

Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, light brown, fully lasting. Body is dark brown, dense tiny particles, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie), moderately yeasty (cobwebs, mold), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a strong note of licorice, lesser notes of clove and raisin. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic. Finish is moderately bitter, lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Enticing spicy aroma, great flavor balance (like the Floreffe brown ales, it’s almost all bitterness to counter the malt...relatively little acidity, which I like in this context), and looks terrific. Mouthfeel could be better, though. Like the Malmedy Blonde, this one is also very quaffable, yet still worthy of sipping.

Pours a dark brown color with a nice beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, liquorice, brown sugars and spices. Flavors of strong roasted malts and liquorice, dark fruits and caramel, with spices. Good carbonation, little sweet and good bitter dry, with a creamy finish. Reminds me of some stouts. Very pleasant flavor and testure for a winter brew.

Bottle at Delirium Cafe. BB 12/04. Vintage. Pours dark brown with a ruby edge and a small creamy head & lacings. Nose is sweet and vinous of dark fruits, yeast and caramel. Smooth and full bodied. Good complexity and really well matured. Oily & full bodied. Dope.
