COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We started in 1985 with a soup pot, a dream, and quite honestly a prayer. Thank God we made it! Please enjoy this special ale made with Michigan-grown barley malt and celebrate with us.

12 oz bottle from backlog notes 2010. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor were all over the place; carame, ffruity, toasted bread, grapefruit, resiny hops, some alcohol, a mild metallic note, weird, but like many others have said, it seemed to grow on me with time.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a small khaki head. Aroma of caramel, fruit and toffee. Flavor of sweet malts, dried fruit, caramel, bread, toffee, and a bit of honey.

12 ounce bottle. Thanks Keith! Pours reddish brown with a decent khaki head. Nice aroma of malt, fruit, and caramel. Taste is sweet malt, dark fruit, caramel, and a touch of alcohol. Even though brewed in 2010 this held up well.

A hazed reddish amber ale with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel with treacle and vinous notes, plums, resinous and catty hops, some musky character, interesting. In mouth, a sweet vinous malt with smooth resinous hops, treacle, dark fruits, light licorice and warming alcohol. Very nice. Batch 9871.

Thanks to Dhren1979 for this extra, cheers Doug! A: Pours a golden amber with excellent clarity and a single finger offwhite foamy head which dissipates over the next ten minutes leaving a central cap of the same. No evident lacing. S: Caramel, toffee, malt backbone. Initially lots of metallic notes (bad). Not much hops. However, maybe the hops are in this observation: for some reason this reminds me of pineapple flavored gummy bears....weird. T: Alcohol was not covered very well here IMO. The malts take second base to fusel that makes my jaw clench. Over the top of this is a great malt blend, sweet and enjoyable. Hints of tea-like flavors. M: Smooth and slightly creamy. Lower carb. Leaves film in mouth. Not bad. D: The beer definitely has potential. And I really like it, I will look for more (as extras). Serving type: bottle 03-04-2011

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Mike! Brewed in 2010, enjoyed in 2013. Elegant copper and amber body, rustic orange with light translucency. Small, khaki head... looks like some carbonation was lost. Aroma is all over the place; brown sugar, candied, dark fruits like plums and grapes, kind of sticky sweet all around with a cutting, earthy hoppiness. Caramel, molasses, a touch of cardboard-like oxidation. Not bad, but not the most coherent thing ever. Taste is malt heavy, of course. Caramel, sticky & buttery toffee, a touch of molasses, bready malt, residual sugars all over, brown sugar covered plums and ripe figs. Oxidation a bit heavier... touch of wet cardboard and unfortunately even less boozy sherry. Not a bad beer, but I expected more from Bell’s for their Silver Anniversary beer. Kind of messy and not exactly well put together.

9/30/2010. From bottle. Dark amber color with a white head. Malty aromas with spice, caramel and fruit. Spicy flavors with dried fruit. Not bad at all.

Bottle to glass, aged a couple years. Pours a deep amber color with a thin light tan head. Aroma is mildly nutty, hay, and boozy. Flavor is similar with a light hay bready sweetness and a mild booze burn. Medium in body with a creamy mouthfeel and lingering malty sweetness. Good, but not great.

Batch 9871

9/27/2010: Bell’s 25th Anniversary Ale... Aroma: Toasty malts; leafy, herbal malts; dry leaves. Appearance: Hazy, honey-colored; small beige head that fades away rapidly; mild carbonation. Flavor: Malty; sweet syrupy honey-toffee maltiness at first followed by brandy-like alcohol (with a bit of burn) and a clean, herbal and floral hoppiness; some pine in the finish that drys out over time; moderate bitterness that lingers along with dried apricot and fig. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth and slightly viscous. Overall: Kind of like a Jr. American-Style Barleywine; good and quite drinkable; way over-priced at $16.99/6-pack, but I guess that’s the trenad these days; this beer is conflicted and HonusWagner puts it best: "This beer has no idea what it wants to be. Is it a scotch ale, like the abv and caramel notes in the nose indicate? Is it a barley wine like the alcohol heat and sweet rich fruit notes imply? Or the IIPA that is overly resinous and citrusy while having a treacle sweetness? Too many things going on for this to be a truly great or even very good beer," but it does seem to be growing on me...

12 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 8.5% by Vol.). Rating #391 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with billowing head. Aroma is excellent malts, flavor is less excellent. I wish it tasted like it smelled
