3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 sunnyridge (222) - USA - APR 20, 2010
Well, it’s a very approachable beer- but this web site isn’t really built on the most approachbale beers now is it? The aroma is fairly unremarkable, almost too balanced, nothing really exciting. The taste is well balanced and still gives the edge to the hops, albeit not very powerful. For what it is though, it’s a good beer.
Something I would probably reach for on a hot day at a BBQ.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans in Leesburg.
It pours a deep amber color with an almost creamy off-white head. Good head retention and lacing. The nose is malty with notes of caramel, bread, and fruity esters. The flavor has a nice bite of hops, but still lets the malt do the work. Nice bread and caramel notes with just a hint of fruitiness and a nice back bitterness. Medium mouthfeel leads to a slightly sweet, medium finish. Overall this is an outstanding example of an amber ale and is one of my preferred daily drinkers. Great stuff!

UPDATED: APR 9, 2010 Tap. Clear reddish amber pour. Thin white head. Caramel malt nose. Big malt bomb on taste with caramel and bread notes.

Bell’s Amber is a quite good amber with a fresh full feel and a balanced earthy flavor. The color is spot on for an amber, whatever that means, but the head dissipated quickly and left little lacing. The smell is bready and full of caramel malt. The flavor strikes an interesting balance between spicy, earthy hops and doughy, sweet malt. The feel is thicker and fuller than expected. It’s rather chewy. There’s some apple or raisin note in the background. Bell’s Amber Ale is an enjoyable, sessionable and solid beer.

Pours a light copper. Aroma is all malt, not really in a good way. Well carbonated with a thin white clingy head. Taste is significant in malt. Overall not too bad.

One of my all time favorites and my first rating here. All of Bells stuff remind me of great homebrew and the Ambe is one of my favorites.
The aroma, appearance, and floavor are all wonderful. The flavor is well balanced with caramel and slight hoppiness. The appearance is beautiful for an unfiltered beer. I love it.

It’s very rare in life to go backwards. Who wants to go back to working for minimum wage after making big bucks before the financial crisis? This amber is one of those very rare times in life where something small is really good ... even if you’re accustomed to enormous IPAs and imperial stouts. The flavor is good, but the real story here is the appearance. Clear with lots of yeast residue evidences Bells in all its unfiltered glory. It’s really tough to get the attention of big beer drinkers with something this modest. Kudos to Bells for pulling off this nigh-impossible task. Highly sessionable.
