COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The last in our Batch series is being packaged today and tomorrow. While we are excited to free up some brewing space for other creative projects, the end of the Batch series marks a major milestone for us, and is a little bittersweet being the end of an era. Batch 10,000 reflects our homebrewing roots and was inspired by the the last homebrew of the season. Our owner Larry Bell remembers going through his brewing supplies and making the last homebrew out of whatever malts and hops were left from his brewing months. With this being the motivation behind our last commemorative batch series beer, we combed through the catalogs of many malt and hop suppliers to source 100 different malts, grains, and other fermentables. This is balanced by the addition of 60 different hop varietals between the kettle and dry hopping. The resulting beer presents a deep, chocolate brown hue and offers roasted and caramel notes from the malts mixed with an assertive hop character. Feel free to drink it fresh, or vintage age it as you please. We lift our glass in appreciation to Bell’s drinkers who have helped us reach this moment in our brewery’s history. Cheers to you!

Bottle... Pours nearly black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. Smoky, malty, roasty nose – brown sugar with a hint of blackstrap molasses and a whisper of licorice. Full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor offers notes of brown sugar, caramel and praline flanked by alcohol warmth and light earthy bitterness. Finishes leathery and bittersweet followed by subtle alcohol heat.

Pours very dark brown almost black. Slight amount of head that quickly fades. Great aroma. Candy, butterscotch, dark fruit, bourbon, and vanilla. Taste is very sweet malt up front that turns boozy and bourbon by the finish. Nice carbonation fizzles on the tongue. Some spiciness in there too but mostly dark fruit and butterscotch. Really great strong ale to me. Not sure why so many not so good reviews of this. I plan to sit my last 3 bottles for a couple years.

12oz bottle. Rating #366. Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Grainy and a little sweet, dark fruits and a mild hop aroma. Light bitterness, dark sugar and a little sweet. (2355)

Opened 20120426. I get some alcohol heat in the nose. I would sit on this for much longer if you have this sitting around. There are some Belgian-type characteristics here but the whole thing is kind of muddled for me. Astringent mouthfeel and some hops in there too.

Caramel aroma and caramel taste. Great example of an American Ale. Hints of vanilla included in this one.

Chef Pauls- 5 oz sampler. Crazy complex aroma of sweet vanilla, coconut, cherries, roasted malt. Dark brown-black color with creamy tan head. Intense flavor, almost like a barleywine with the sweet malt and hops and alcohol all in huge quantities. Underlying sweet coffee, coconut, slightly roasted smoke malt, coupled with a piney bitter finish all keep this brew together and tasting just wonderful. Glad I got a chance to have this one. Wow.

Tap flight at Bavarian Lodge. Mahogany dark brown with a light brown ring for a head. A splotch of small bubbles make up an aerated slick on top of the glass where the rest of the head lived briefly before retreating to the edges of the glass. Aroma of dark molases spent coffee grounds. Very roasty up front but not overpowering and medium to light-medium bodied. I would have guessed this as a porter in a blind test. Some hard-to-place flavors follow the roast...must be 96 of those other malts and "other fermentables". Adjectives like creamy and leathery come to mind with a little bit of pipe ash and European buttering hops. (Not that kind of pipe, stoners!). Porter lovers will especially dig this beer for its roastiness and drinkability despite the high ABV.

Got this 12oz bottle in a trade. Been carted to a couple of tastings, but never quite got popped. It’s time to drink this in front of the computer on a Monday night. Nose is sweet malt with a bit of vinegar and even some soy sauce. Sweet hoppiness hiding among the other aromas. I get the feeling this one needs to warm a bit. Petri dish tan head. Big fizzy mouthfull of beer. Sweet raisin malt. 9.2% abv well hidden. High sharp sweet bite. Very nice brew.

hivemind (426) - New York, New York, USA - APR 1, 2012
Bottle shared by James - thanks, my son. Pours dark, murky garnett with small but even, whispy head. Lost Abbey snifter glass. Nose is dark fruits, malts, etc. Pretty rich aroma. Palate is pretty malt-forward with a malty, earthy base and dark fruity layer on top. A little grainy. Rich with notes of booze. Actually very similar to Arrogant Bastard in almost every respect.

Bottle split with streets and Brendan. Pours a hazy brown body with spotty lacing. Aroma is lush molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, chocolate chip pancakes, sweet malts and light root. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with notes of hops, chocolate, roast.

Bottle thanks to urbancaver. Pours dark root beer brown. Nose of toffee and earth. Tastes of caramel, cola, earth, leather, licorice, figs, and malt. It’s drying on finish and slightly warming.
