3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Treebs (733) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 22, 201212 oz. bottle served in a Surly Darkness tulip.
A: Pours a dark plum color with a light tan forming on the pour. It recedes to a whispy collar that leaves some soapy lace down the glass.
S: Some slight smoke with a touch charred wood. Dark fruit flavors with a little grape aspect to it. Roasted mix nicely with some green hops. Very intriguing.
T: Some roasted malts with charred wood flavor. There is a slight twinge of smoke and some minimal dark fruits flavors, but this guy is all malt. The finish is astringent with some dried cereal grain malt sweetness.
M: Medium bodied with a full mouthfeel. Medium low carbonation and a drying finish.
O: This guy was all malt with a touch of dark fruits. Slightly sweet and smokey as well. It was pretty decent, but nothing I’d want to revisit in the future.

12oz bottle shared by Max at Zach and Matt’s tasting. Pours brownish black with a medium tan head. Aroma of booze, dark fruits, some spice and malt. Taste is slightly boozy with roasted notes and a really smooth finish for the level of ABV.

Bottle. Pours dark with nice head. Aroma and flavor is dark fruits and hops. Really really nice. Dark fruit blends perfectly with the hops, abv is non-existent. Wish I had more.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Queenholly, thanks so much! Deep brown with ruby highlights around the edges. Thin, very light white head. Aroma and flavor runs hand in hand. Real nice subtle complexities. Dark fruit, caramel malts, toffee, some pine hops, light cocoa. Coffee notes. Woody notes. Finish has a balance of roasted malt and pine type hops. Overall heavy on the malts. I don’t know how old the bottle is but… no alcohol to be found anywhere. Very light warming sensation after the sip. Medium body leaning on the full side and a soft carbonation. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Very delightful and sophisticated. Glad to have had this chance to sample the last “Batch”. Finely aged. Thanks again Rebekah!

Bottle c/o Secret Santa 2012. Pours dark brown and burgundy with a 2-finger creamy tan head. Aromas of toffee, hazelnut, nutty candy, caramel, mild berry and bittersweet cocoa. Raisin, prune, plum, lots of fig, vanilla, and alcohol as it warms. The flavor is lots of leather, tobacco, and oak. Raisin, and fig are prominent, with dark berry also. Very light citrus rind leads to a sweet, malty, somewhat salty leather finish, with cocoa and vanilla in the aftertaste. Low carbonation, medium to fully body, creamy. Really nice; sweet, very subtle complexities. Better with every sip. [1123]

Cellared for roughly three years thanks to changeup45. The beer is still going strong. Vigorous pour from bottle to balloon tulip yields a strong head that dissipates to a light lingering foam. Color is a deep brown. Bottle is a clean and simple design. The aroma is complex due to all the malts and hops. There is a molasses and fig/raisin quality to it. Some coffee comes up on the back end of the sip once the beer warms up. The flavor is on the sweet side of balanced and the texture winds up slightly sticky on the lips. All in all I'm glad I tried this one.

Bottle... Poured dark, not quite black with little to no head. This gave off a decent amount of smoke which masked that oxidation well. Dark sugars, bitter-sweet molasses and toasted grains were prominent. Dark nutty grains and sweetness. This aged quite well.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, extra in a trade from queenholly. Pours translucent dark brown with small light brown head. Very little lacing, medium body, medium carbonation, and light molasses aroma. Taste is molasses, caramle malt, roasted malt, and bitter hop finish. Not my thing.

4th July 2011 Cloudy brown beer. Small pale tan head. Smooth soft palate. With 60 hops in this beer it is pretty malt led! Dark toffee, cream, molasses and a trace of marmite. Whispers of hop pine and fruit but it’s all about the malt here. Finishes with a mild carbonated bite and a mildly bitter aftertaste. Disappointing - a definite case of more is less here. Hebrew do this much better.

12 oz bottle @ Casey’s: Pours dark amber/brown with a nice tan head. Very complex aroma and flavor. This is the second time I have had this beer and it defintely gets better with age. So complex on every level. One of the most unique beers I have tried. I don’t know how they used so many ingredients and still made it work but hey it’s Bells!
