Commercial Description:
A commemorative brew celebrating Kalamazoo Brewing Company's 4000th batch. Considered to be a "double-mild" in style, Batch 4000 uses Sterling hops from a small farm in the Willamette Valley, and debuts an exclusive barley-malt, by Breiss Malting. It shows off some characteristics from the traditional English Mild, while doubling up the flavor profile and alcohol content. Brewed in February of 2000, this is beer is a one-time only brew.

A hazy orange beer with a fast dying orange head. The aroma is sweet spicy - with some notes of stale fruits - reminds me of a Belgian Ale. The flavor is very rounded with notes of caramel, malt, lots of fruit, going towards the stale towards the end. The alcohol shows of with a slight bite.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Strongly hazy with a yellowish head. Fat aroma of malt and caramel. Fairly full-bodied dominated by malt and caramel. Rather odd, underlying tang - perhaps it’s a slight oxidization

(12oz bottle, thanks artusory) Opaque/cloudy amber body with small white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, floral, caramel, light butterscotch. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, earthy/floral, some orange/cherry. Sticky, medium-full body.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with Styles (thanks!). Poured a deeper copper color with a small sized off white head. Some floaters. Aromas of wood, dark cherries, caramel and it has a light earthiness to it. Tastes of wood, oranges, caramel, and lighter cherries. Tastes on the softer side (I attribute this to its age).

5 yr old bottle. This particular bottle has not held up very well. Bottle-conditioned, it pours a cloudy amber, topped by a filmy off-white head, lasting. Aroma is passed its prime to say the least. It proposes sausages and tart apples notes in a crusty and sauerkraut like background. Sharply vinegary flavour profile, earthy, cookie-ish and mildly alcoholic. Light bodied has certainly lost some of its glory. Thanks for the opportunity Clark.

Bottle... Opaque, deep orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Fruity, malty aroma with notes of caramel, black tea, toffee, cotton candy and red apple. The flavor is all about malt, but is perfectly balanced by a very deliberate Sterling hop addition. So delicious and caramelly. Also fruity and vineous (port). Medium-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Lengthy, astringent finish. More reminiscent of an old ale or barley wine than a mild. Tons of thanks go out to jtw for the bottle.

Pours a hazy copper bronze with a thin off-white, lightly lacing head. Has a rich dark malty caramel aroma with some butterscotch and a touch of lemony citrus. Starts lightly sweet with a hint of honey turning more tart, dry and citric with a warming finish. Has a surprising amount of carbonation for its age. Nice subtle complexity, but this is probably past its prime with the added sourness. Thanks to goldtwins for sharing!

Bottled thanks to suiiy. Amber coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Sweet and herbal aroma with notes of light cocoa, light liqourice and light pine. Flavour is sweet and liqouricefilled. Herbs and light pine. Vague spices. Medium bodied. Sweetish end. Alcohol notable. Quite mild and balanced.
