A commemorative brew celebrating Kalamazoo Brewing Company’s 4000th batch. Considered to be a "double-mild" in style, Batch 4000 uses Sterling hops from a small farm in the Willamette Valley, and debuts an exclusive barley-malt, by Breiss Malting. It shows off some characteristics from the traditional English Mild, while doubling up the flavor profile and alcohol content. Brewed in February of 2000, this is beer is a one-time only brew.

Bottle courtesy of eyedrinkale. Copper colored, lots of floaties. Long lived white head which is suprising considering the age of this bottle. Big raisiny aroma. Very sweet and slightly oxidized flavor. lighter bodied. Decent.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2008 Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Murky, glowing amber resin. Beautiful color. Thin aroma of honey and old, soggy wood. Lightly oxidized sherry and pepper touch. Thinned malt and a bit of crass saltwater flavor; biscuity with a dying whisper of pine and grassy hop. Bitter rind of orange and papery candies. Soft and tired in the mouth, finishing with a slick, bland, sweet coating of weak whiskey and aired out citrus. Time has simplified this into oblivion from something that seems to have been quite straightforward from the start; completely worn out. Thanks for sharing, Tyler!

Much thanks to the Queens RB crew! Pours a full orangish brown with no head. Aroma of burnt caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, and malt. Flavors of oak, bourbon, caramel, raisin, and vanilla. Strong alcohol feel on the intake, but this quickly fades. The finish is sweet caramel. A little harsh but still rich and enjoyable.

Very sweet candy, with great malt. . . Sugar, sour and then some spice. . . This one has the usual Bell's malt, but taken quite a bit further, with some great complexity that goes into an subtle hop phase, thanks so much Hey_Kevin for treating us to a gem that can't be found any more. . .

12 oz bottle from Goldtwins and hellomynameis sampled at the MN RB Winter shindig. Time has tempered this beast for sure. Oxidation is setting in some. Plenty of sweet malt and candy on the nose. Overripe dark fruit. Pours bright clear copper. Almost still. Flavor is very malt forward with some cinnamon and chocolate. Medium bodied. Slightly syrupy and thick.

Big thanks to radiomgb for busting out this rarity from the past. Brownish amber color, thin ring of tan bubbles. Pleasant malty aroma, sweet, light alcohol, fruity and caramelly. More barley wine characteristics in the flavor, malty, some fig, a touch of fruit and some caramel. It it was hoppy at one time, they sure have left the building. Medium to full bodied, surprisingly has not suffered from almost 6 years in the cellar, even only being 7.5%. Very nice.

Dark amber w/ fine head. Strong malty aroma. Medium-full bodied. Subtle but complex flavour of toffee, toast, grain, earth, and hops.

A nice amber color with a faint off-white head. The aroma comes together to produce an interesting honey wheat bread character. The malt is quite pleasant, producing sweet toffee, toasted grain, light chocolate, and perhaps some nut. The finish has a nice English mild hop presence that makes it's way into the mix and thus being neiher overwhelming nor missed. Many thanks to hey_kevin for allowing me to taste something I had given up on.

Thanx to flemdawg for sharing. This brew reminded me more of a barley wine than an american strong ale.Dark fruits and nuts with a small alcohol tinge, very good.

Rusted ruby. Nice soapy off-white head. Fades to nothing. Alcoholified sweet brownies. Dry port. Soda-like malt, dry edges. Brownies. Oxidation, but okay in here. You can tell its died down perhaps, but it has a nice blend of flavors and has certainly held up exceptionally well over the last many (8?) years...
