skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA May 25, 2004 This Bells Belle filled the snifter with a mahogany hue, and had the nose of oak and cherries. The taste was bold, with so much malt that the alcohol was an afterthought. She is a little hop-thin. The palate is round, and the flavor lasts forever. I didn’t want to drink anything else for fear of losing the mouthfeel. Well constructed! sloth (1658), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA May 22, 2004 Slides from the bottle to the glass gracefully. Lightly hazy chestnut brown in color with some red highlights. Medium statured tan head residing on top, hangs around fer awhile producing a nice lace to boot. Beautiful hops aroma, spicey, slightly piney, with a hint of caramel also. Very nice nose for a barleywine. Thick full body elegant texture, resiny, oily. Large, well balanced hops and malt flavors.Fruity, dark malts with a grainy roastiness. Alcohol is masked well but you know its in there, moreso as it warms. Finish is dry, resiny, sticky. Gotta be my favorite Bells brew to date. Impressive! Will age well. Ungstrup (14761), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 14, 2004 An unclear brown beer with a yellow-orange head. The aroma is extremely hopped on a sweet malty background and with notes of alcohol and oranges. The flavor is great; very hoppy with strong notes of oranges, chocolate and alcohol running over the tongue. Thanks to Mads Berg for sharing this wonderful beer. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada May 12, 2004 (Bottle) Pours a medium, yellow-beige creamy head and an opaque body. Very oily and thin. Nose of huge, rippened plums and raisins being crushed into a glass. Amazing reading MattA’s description - I thought the exact same things, but thought of the beer I sampled the previous night, Third Coast Old Ale. Overwhelming chocolate, molasses and bourbon flavours. Like enjoying a fantastic dipped-cigar. Very complex and flavourful - this is it - this is what I like! Creamy, smooth and an alcohol bite in the finish. This is masterful... many thanks to Raindog for the experience. matta (1137), Tampa, Florida, USA May 9, 2004 Thanks to my buddy BBB63 for sending me this brew, always a great trader!

Holly Crap! This beer pours much darker than I was expecting! The body is the deepest hue of mahogany, and the head is fluffy and tan. The aroma, on first thought reminds me of North Coast Old Stock Ale. Insane notes of oak sit up front, then immense dark and fruity suggestions, plums, apricots, dates, figs…WOW.. Incredibly malty.. a bit smoky… true notes of molasses and caramelized brown sugar…. and this is all in the aroma!
Oh yeah! More sweet woodsy, smoky, molasses is found in the flavor... a bit of darker tobaccos as well. In adition, I’m pulling some large notes of caramel and mocha out of the body. The hops are a bit astringent here though.. which causes some confusion. It still actually seems very young.. I think an additional 6+ months would help balance out the hops, as they are so forward and confrontational.
The body and palate are awe-inspiring. Sooo velvety and slick.. very thick and chewy. The finish brings a tart yet toasty sweet mocha, rather dry & sharp.
Overall…. 6,000 seems like an adolescent…. but headed quickly towards maturity… I would love to sample this beer a year for now… Expect 6,000 to age into a King! KBeer (117), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 4, 2004 A wonderful Barley Wine. Sweet and malty, deep brown/red color with almost no head. Full mouthfeel that lingers on the tounge. Chocolate, coffee, barley, caramel tones. gerdy555 (163), Ohio, USA Apr 28, 2004 aroma is malty, sweet and like syrup, with pine also in the aroma. pours redish brown with a tan head. flavor is full bodied nice and bitter. alcohol is warming. this is a pretty big beer and I enjoyed it. it is strong and complex. omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Apr 27, 2004 Updated: Oct 18, 2004Bottled, thanks hopsrus!
Cloudy copper colour with thick, creamy head. Fruity, vinous nose with notes of smoke and plums. Deeply malty. Salty licorice and hops builds up to a very bitter finish. Sticks out in a crowds of barley wines. Has developed a lot in the past 6 months.
Old rating (April 2004)Copper colour, small beige head. Vinous smokey ash aroma. Very rich and salty with notes of blood and metal, but hops, peppey alcohol and salty spices dominates. Extremely powerful, but also confusing and unusual. Still a bit raw, should probably have waited in the celalr for a while. (5/4/7/3/12)
