Bottled, shared at the PP Bottle Shop tasting with wetherel, DenverLogan, goldtwins, and others. Pours dark amber with a red hue and light beige bubbles forming lace. Medium strength aroma of caramel spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, some coconut and a hearty malt presence. Flavors start with nutty caramel, fading into a sweet blend of plum and raisin fruit with a touch of orange citrus. Slight espresso and old hops are noticeable in the finish. The beer is still nicely bittered after a few years of aging, and it has a silky mouthfeel with some noticeable oxidation.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown/caramel color. Off white head that leaves a white lace around the glass. Smells like malt, caramel, and dark dried fruits. Taste is pretty thick, roasty, sweet, malty and lightly effervescent even at this point. While not my favorite style of beer, I liked this one quite a bit and respect how it falls into the style. Nice beer, thanks to whomever traded this to me.

Sampled at the 2008 Twin Cities winter gathering. Sweet wih lots of hops and carmelized sugar. Candy like finish. Dark brown color. Lots of hops but also sweet malt. Very good.

Sampled at MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering in Maplewood, MN and supplied by hellomynameis. From a 12-oz bottle pours a hazy dark caramel brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and ring. Aroma of caramel malt, roasted nuts, a touch of raisin and dark pitted fruits. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of roasted caramel malt, raisins, a touch of candi sugar and even some chocolate. Finish is smooth, semi-sweet with a dry caramel and raisin aftertaste.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering. Thanks to whomever brought this one. This was the weeakest of the lot. Nice sweet toffee, brown sugar, raisens, and dark fruits on the nose, but the palate kind of falls off a touch. Not too much heat, but it lacked the amazing complexity of 4000, 5000, and 7000.

Bottle. Big thanks to TheBeerCellar for sending me this one. Wow what a Barley Wine. I was waiting for a moment when I walked down into my cellar to pick out a beer for the evening and deciding that this was the beer to drink. It makes me sad but not too sad because I enjoyed the hell out of it. Enough carbonation to give a little head. Big caramel and nutty flavor, rich malt and perfect balance of everything in this beer. This is what I expect from a Barley Wine and wish I could find some more that are similar to this one.

Solid dark brown color. Still body. It’s got that dry hoppy nose with a faintly sdweet that I associate with a well aged barley wine. Slightly sweet body with a dry finish.
