I have been sitting on this and decided to try and was it enjoyable.I am not a big barley wine fan but this was a nice sweet malty with a kinda smokey finish,it had a very thin head that faded quickly overall not bad at all.CHEERS!

12oz bottle Thanks to Slikwily for this one! Well, I’ll say that I had a 2002 3rd Coast Old Ale earlier tonight...Since then I’ve eaten, and drank a bunch of water. I can’t really distinguish this beer from the 3rd coast! Aroma is a bit more dull, malts are a little more pronounced and the tropical fruity finish of the 3rd coast is missing. I’m not sure which I like better, so I’ll rate them the same, basically. I’m not so sure this one is so commerative, but maybe more bitter, which I like, although this one is certainly more fresh, so that could be a factor. I’ll take this one by a hair.

First off this was hard to find and quite expensive. This is a beautiful dark cloudy rich auburn/black beer with a nice cream foam head. Smells quite woody, and hoppy. There are some notes of fruits, perhaps raisins. The taste is quite hoppy, very strong and has a coffee ground flavor in the finish. The flavor isn't as deep or as complex as I would like but after cellaring some of these the flavors may have time to fight it out. Glad I have the chance to try this beer before they are gone forever.

Had this on tap at bells eccentric day. Poured a murky brown with a small head. Smelled rich and wonderful. Taste was big and balanced, dark fruit, expensive nuts, caramel, hints of vanilla and a nice hop backbone. This one was wonderful. It has aged very well. Glad I got to try it. Re-rate: they had this on tap at crunchys in east lansing! Great beer, age has treated this beer well. What a joy to try on draft. Nothing too much more to add, but try it if you can.

Deep, hazy, chestnut. Medium off-white, head. Strong aroma of fat, chewy, malts and juicy hops. Soft, mellow carbonation. Silky mouthfeel, big body. Huge malty flavors, with strong grapefruit, and woody hops.Malts are sweet and fruity. Finish is warming and loaded with sappy, citrus hop flavors. The more I drank, the more I enjoyed. Approaching room temp, the hop/malt combo becomes hugely, vinous and delicious. This one will kick you in the pants.Whew.

Bottle Generously shared by MrBunn. Pours a deep coppery brown with minimal head. Aromas are Brown sugar ALL the way. Very sweet and rich, molasses rears its head, with tones of caramel and just plain sticky goodness that envelops the senses. Nice alcohol bite rounds out the finish. All I can say is I wish I had a case, or a hundred.

Tonight deserved a rarity from the cellar. 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy chocolatey brown color with a small khaki head. Nose is outstanding, dark fruits, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, light spice and alcohol. Initial taste mirrors the aroma with some more complexity. Initial taste demonstrates its medium syrupy body with caramel, toffee, sweet malts. Developing into a coffee, chocolate and dark fruits. Raisans and mollasses also become apparent. Right upon the finish you get toffee creaminess. Hop balance was still there and beautiful. Everything was well balanced and developed nicely. Body is medium, average head retention. Palate duration is above average. Extremely tasty and very drinkable.

Deep cloudy amber brown. Piney hops, quite floral with malt hiddenin background. Rich mouthfeel with pine, fruit, roasted malt notes. Finish lingers leaving a nice freshness. Very nice though I think i’ll prefer it more once the hops settle down in few years..
