Dark brown with a hint of ruby around the edges, small ring of head, jelly lacing. Aroma is sweet smoke malty and intoxicating but not overly strong. Palate is thick, as would be expected in something this malty and strong. Caramel, dark chocolate, vague fruits, almost too sweet but saved by an alcohol warmth and a well rounded hop resin. This is surely one to age, as good as it is allready.

Bottle that I never thought I would get thanks deyholla! Pours a very dark brown with no head. Aroma is malts, dark fruits and caramel. Warm finish, nice malts and some caramel. Very nice, I know this is aged and that made it better. So awesome.

12 oz. bottle (rbsg 2010 northernbrews - from notes). Pours a hazy cola brown color with a small off white film. The aroma had sweet malts, caramel, toffee, a splash of cocoa, ripe fruits, oxidation and a hint of alcohol. The flavor was moderately sweet caramel malts, toffee, cocoa, fruits, some herbal notes with some sign of the abv making an appearance. This had some oxidation, but was still drinking pretty nice.

Bottle sampled at Muckfest III. Opaque brown pour with a thin tan head. Big malt nose with lots of toffee and caramel with some chocolate and heat. Flavor is caramelly with a slight herbal character and boozy undertone. Cocoa makes an appearance before a bitter finish.

Bottle at Muckfest III - Pours cola-colored with no head and long legs. Sweet and sugary on the nose, with raisins, bready malt, and a bit of cardboard. Lots of caramel in the taste, brown sugar, and a little sherry. Waves of bready malt, but it’s pretty papery and limp. Slick and full-bodied, I think this beer has seen it’s better days.

12 oz. bottle from dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! Pours a hazy plum-brown color with a tiny beige head. Aroma of dark and dried fruits, brown sugar, rum bread, caramel, and chocolate. Flavor of toffee, tons of dark fruits, a mellow metallic note, vanilla, resin, and a big brown sugar finish. The body has thinned but hasn’t fallen out completely. Smooth, sweet, and fruity with low carbonation. Pretty good after all these years.

Cloudy dark brown beer, no real head. Aged malt nose, strong. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Aged malt and unsweet chocolate. Pinch of salt. A little sweet cream. Finishes soft and dry. Nicely flavoured and aged barleywine - really quite moorish.

12oz bottle split. Burgundy-brown with an oily beige head. Deep resiny chocolate laced hop aroma. This has aged quite well, Has everything you’d hope for in a Barleywine. Rich, woody, vanilla, oakiness. Resiny but not overbearing, lots of malty flavor. Not unlike DFH Immort Ale? This is really excellent, I’m rather blown away. Lots of chunks at the finish. Rich, full bodied. World Class.

8/12/11. 12oz bottle shared pre-GTMW. Rich caramel aroma with definite oxidation and mint. Rich caramel flavor with a touch of roast and definite oxidation. Quite nice for its age.

Wow! markwise does it again with a beer that has been on my wants list since I joined ratebeer more than 5 years ago. Very cool. 12oz bottle, with gross looking muddy black inner bottle cap, pours amber – ruby – red with tan head. The aroma is musty aged pine hops, spicy hops, sludgy malts and a mild level of caramel off in the background. The taste is muted yet bold and thick. It tosses up pine hops that swing around the palate for a while before timid notes of spicy hops and musty sticky malts attempt to be heard. Still firmly pine hop forward flavor for this well aged beer. What is this, 7 or 8 years old by now? Great treat for sure.
