Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 21, 2008 Bottle courtesy of drewbeerme. Pours an opaque oxblood/mahogany color with a light tan head. Crazy lacy on this one. Nose is chocolate, plum, cherries and alcohol. Palate is pretty bitter - burnt molasses, black licorice, sour black cherries and coffee. Creamy /chewy mouth feel. Honestly, a bit disappointed in this one given the hype. A little too sour for my tastes. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Mar 21, 2008 Roasted breakfast blend coffee, vanilla and cocoa. Estery with bright coffee-astringent fruit aroma.
Amber, dried blood color with no head.
Taste is rind bitter and milky coffee sour with red fruit and mint.
Palate is numbing, dull bitter with a coffee astringency. Lingers very long with some alcohol.
Beer is ruby brown to black. Taste and aroma are complex- comes together well. Solid!

bboeckl (133), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Mar 18, 2008 Acquired in trade for batch 8000. Opaque, jet black with a foamy tan head. Aroma is of soggy cereal/oatmeal and roasted grains. Flavor is of of burnt coffee, dark chocolate, . This bitterness is balanced with a syrupy caramel sweetness. Dessert in a bottle. Every sip uncovers a new layer complexity. Dark fruits noticeable. Delectable. Excellent beer!
BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2008 From bottle, Thanks Styles : Pours very dark black, pretty thick pour. A half finger of thick brown head forms, last for a few minutes, then dies down to some bubbles and foam, with nice lacing. Nose is very sweet chocolate, with roasted notes, and dark fruit. Taste is nice. Very chocolatey, with some alcohol, roasted malts, coffee notes, and ends with big chocolate. Very thick creamy feel on the palate. Aftertaste is nice a chocolatey as well, almost a desert style beer. Very much enjoyed. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA Mar 16, 2008 Bottle thanks to Sephiroth.
Pour-dark, somewhat viscous, dark tan head
Aroma-choclatey roast, almost a dark fruit aroma
Flavor-sweet coffee chocolate up front, sweet to almost sour, ends on a bittersweet chocolate note....quite sweet but nice chocolate coffee flavor, not as good as expedition
Mouthfeel-smooth, thick mouthfeel, not that mellow, a bit strong with the sourness
Overall--It was good, but the fruitiness was a bit souring at times. Was a little let down but still tasty. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 14, 2008 Updated: Sep 23, 2008Bottle thanks to artusory, thanks Ryan. This seems much different than most people say. It was relatively thin, clear, and more fruity and smoky or roasted. Poured a deep brown/black color with a thin tan head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of chocolate, light berries and dark fruit, and roastiness. Flavor enters with some light fruit and a hint of tartness, moving into a chocolate flavor with a roasty undertone and hints of coffee. Smooth, a bit lighter on the palate than I anticipated. Interesting. I need to get a hold of another to hang on too. Re-rate: Poured a darker brown/black color with a thick, dense tan head that stuck around quite nicely and left some nice sheets of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, some roasted malt, light coffee, a bit of dark vinuous fruit, and some light brown sugar/molasses. Nice, smooth entry with some moderate chocolate and a decent ashy character leading into a nice roasty character with some undertones of caramel draped vinuous fruit (a deep red grape flavor) hiding underneath some strong roastiness. Finishes with a light bitterness and undertones of that same deep grape flavor with some dark chocolate to round out the flavor profile. Thick and smooth with low carbonation, very good. Big thanks goes out to SoLan for sending me another bottle to try, I didn’t do this beer justice the first time due to an off bottle, but this is an awesome beer. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Mar 14, 2008 Updated: Sep 4, 2009Thanks to Seproith for this! Black and viscous with thin tan head, toss in some spotty lacing and you one wonderful looking beer. Cocoa and bourbon on the nose. Velvety mouth-feel with a complex flavor profile consisting of chocolate, roast. coffee, smoke, and a malty bitter finish. Alcohol well masked. I only wish I had one fresh just for comparison purposes. Very malty so if thats your thing, you gotta get one of these milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Mar 13, 2008 100th rating!! Pour is dark, somewhat viscous, dark tan head. Aroma is choclatey roast, some dark fruit. Flavor is sweet coffee chocolate up front, ends on a bittersweet chocolate note....quite sweet but nice chocolate coffee flavor (sweetness borders on sourness on occasion). Not the best stout Ive had (that honor goes to expedition) but good overall.
