Quiver (139), Augusta, Georgia, USA Jan 13, 2006 Updated: Jan 30, 2006Thanks to MikeMac for this one: Not as good as the Expedition, mainly because the alcohol is not as well hidden. Taste is a smokey roasted coco beans, with a heavy malt and nice smooth finish. not as sweet as the expedition.. Very chewey. Would be awesome with a cedar lite cigar. All hale to the expedition CaptKirk (175), Hephzibah, Georgia, USA Jan 13, 2006 Dark rich and complex. This was the most interesting beer I have had in a long time. I enjoyed this beer, but unfortunately, I had the expedition first, which absolutely rocks! So, I was a little disappointed. Taste of burned chocolate and prunes finishing with an alocohol burn. I am glad I tried it, but the expedition is still king! CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 11, 2006 Updated: Jan 12, 2006Had 3 bottles of this over the weekend. It’s not as good as expedition, but it’s still damn tasty. Not as much chocolate or as thick as expedition either. It is way more alcohol tasting for that extra .5%. It also has a very wet mouth feel. Still tastes of chocolate, coffee, and some sort of fruit. Capa (952), Yokosuka, Japan Jan 11, 2006 Poured very dark, and very thick. Minimal brown head formed on top. Aroma was chocolate with raspberries and cherries, also hit with alcohol. Drinks like a meal with chocolate, alcohol, fruit and hops. I had picked up only one, but I think I’ll have to go get another to keep around for a while. wintersdying (49), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jan 10, 2006 pours blackish-brown with minimal head. nose is quite astringent and sharp. coffee, chocolate and cranberry notes in the aroma.
flavor is full-force, hops quite present. a lot better this (2nd) time around, than i remember from the first time i drank this.
alcohol is present, but not overly unpleasant. sloth (1657), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jan 8, 2006 Low profile choco brown head. Retention is short lived but rouses back up easily. Raspberries and chocolate aromas leap out immediately as does a bit of bandaid, though it,s kind of interesting, not a bad thing somehow. Blackola colored brew. Body is just large, aggresive, not creamy or as silky as expected but still kool. Big and roasty chocolate flavors, black patent (?) with a massive hop bill. C-hops galore make their presence known as this puppy warms, blending well with the over the top malt bill.12% alc. ? Fairly dry finish is lucious and fruity. A ager indeed. Man, Bells can brew some schweet Impys ! Many thanks to Saint Sprinkle(Secret Santa) for this bottle and one to age. Also like to thank Mr. Facto for another bottle to stick on my shelf for future consumption. jsquire (2086), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2006 Out of the 12 oz bottle. Dark beer with a thin, brown head that shrunk to a lasting ring. Very complex brew. Raisen, other dried fruits and hot hops in the nose. This beer tastes young, and I bet will improve for the next year or two. Very hot on the tongue. Lots of dark fruit, hair spray, caramel, orange rind, chocolate, and an almost grassy finish. Very nice beer, that will only get better. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Jan 6, 2006 Bottle at rating session in Naples, FL with flemdawg. Tan small head that quickly dissipated, poor lacing, no visible carbonation, opaque, and a black hue. Aroma was roasty malts, choccolate, coffee and some raisin. Flavor was malty, roasty, coffee, chocolate, and lightly bitter. Tingly palate. Medium body. Thanks flemdawg!
