Pours dark and thick. Nice consistancy - not too thick but not watery either. Has a chocolately, coffee taste that lingers in the mouth for a long time before fading.

12.10.05 12oz bottle, RLB YEHA-05. Black and thick pour, molasses, but with a thick and lasting brown head. Nice looking stuff, but it’s hard to find an impy stout that isn’t. Aroma, besides reminding me of fudge batter, has a pitch bite and some undertones of caramelized citrus fruits. Rummy. Rich, soft, decadent palate. Flavor adds a deeper choco-roast pseudo-complexity with interminglings of biting hops, especially towards the finish; seems to lose focus from what had begun on a very high note. Lots of surprises with this beer as I didn’t know what it was before it was poured, and I had no idea it was so highly rated.

I loved this pour...but, then again, I love impy stouts so I’m already psyched for this one. Very dark black, thick looking, pour. Large brown head foams up then falls back. Nose is all over the place....roasty coffee choco malts yet big bitter hop surge makes itself known. I like. Taste is a moment of sweet followed by a big bitter roasty slam....tasty, chocolatety, extremely burnt, alcohol, some hops attempting to throw some balance into this big beer. Very full almost cream-like mouthfeel, with a big big hop bitterness in the end. I’m glad I got this and look forward to sampling more as it matures.

Pours pitch black with huge brwon head that fades rather quickly. Nice oily lacing. Lots of piney hop up front with roasted grain background. Hints of chocolate and dark fruits. Roasted grain and chocolate dominate the initial flavor, then turns to all piney hops. Long lingering aftertaste of bitter roasted grain. Can’t wait til these get a couple years on them

Thanks to MrFacto for this one! A large creamy head tops off this black bodied stout. Strong coffee aroma with maybe a hint of smoke. Moderately sweet with loads of roast barley bitterness that carry all the way into the long finish. Wonderful creaminess that coats the tongue. Improves as it warms and one that will most likely improve with age as well, if you are lucky enough to have some to cellar.

Bottle: Holy schnikes this is black, large brown foamy head, nice lacing.   One of the darker ones out there, at least that I have seen.   Roasted malt nose, cocoa, apple skin, pixie stix like candish aroma.   WOW, smooth is what I first notice.   Rich malt background, nice hop up front, blends well, fairly sweet, somewhat candyish, touch of soy, fig, light fruit (apple, pear), and definitely not feeling like 12%.   Only a slight creeping of alcohol after the finish.   Body and mouthfeel are big, but not as viscous as I thought based on its color depth.   Heat approaches well after the finish.   Hops and cocoa linger, with a sweet lactose like base.   Great stuff!!!   One of the best stouts that Bell’s has made.   Many thanks to Schroppfy for sending me this one!

Excellent looking beer to start things off. Jet black with a nice brown head that really lasts. Aroma is typical impy stout, sweet, warm, raisins, moderate hops. Flavor was just a hair to sour in the finish for my taste, but still an excellent beer.

Looks great. Smells great. Feels great, but with a bitter mollassas aftertaste that I couldn’t stomach.
