holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2007 12 oz bottle. From the history of the x000 batches I expected a lot but when the reviews came in, I lowered them. After a few bottles of this though I’m ready to rate it myself. Pours a golden yellow with a tall white head. Spicy nose. Coriander, pepper, allspice, balanced with oranges, vanilla, yeasty, wheat and creamy. Similar first reaction to the flavor. Spicy. But then it blends so well. Coriander and pepper beside the juicy oranges and lemons and the creamy vanilla and wheaty notes. Refreshing and tasty. I can’t wait to see how these spices change overtime. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 6, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours a nice, clean, hazy gold. Medium size, white bubbly head fades rather quickly. Aroma of banana, honey, some clove. Initial palate is rather sweet, but that quickly changes to a spiced, peppery mouthfeel. As the beer warms up, the alcohol really comes out to play. Interesting beer, but not really my style. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Nov 5, 2007 All spice and nutmeg aroma emits from this amber yellow brew. Sweet and creamy notes. Big bitter bite, bit of an alcohol burn and lingering alcohol dryness in the after taste. Peppery spicy cloves with a chalky banana palate. Strong brew, enjoy over a period of time, not one to pound on a hot day. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2007 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy orange-amber color with a medium sized orange-white head. The aroma was strong and sweet with notes of orange, coriander and other vague spices. The flavor was somewhat dry and musty with a light hint of orange and vague spices. The body was moderately thick. The taste was somewhat disappointing and the alcohol while well hidden initially came through significantly as it warmed. tagz (334), USA Nov 4, 2007 bottle. clear mid range amber with a thin white head that lasts - coats glass as you drink. fruity yeast aroma. taste’s more like a trippel than a "double wit." i get candy sugar, orange, moderate bitter, mild carbonation. the sweetness wasn’t overbearing, but made the palate less than crisp. has a nice tang and the alcohol is well hidden, but the sugar brings down the drinkability. illkarate (89), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Nov 4, 2007 What a treat. Deep orange color, moderate but quickly dissapating head. Almost no lacing. Lots of citrus and coriander as the description states. Packs a wallop, but the alcohol is hidden quite well. Great beer! lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Nov 3, 2007 Bottle. Batch ID #8000. Pours a murky gold with a smallish light-tan head. Oranges, coriander, bananas, vanilla extract, and pepper in the floral aroma. Medium to full-bodied. Smooth finish. Starts with some tangy, juicy oranges, bananas and bubblegum and transitions nicely to some vanilla. Finishes with some pepper and spiciness. Warming alcohol and wheaty undertones throughout. Great stuff. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 3, 2007 Bottle. Soft, hazy golden pour. Small fading fizzy white head. Aroma is heavily spiced along with wheat/grains, yeast notes, lemon/cardamom, citric tartness and candyish notes. Taste is somewhat more subdued than I expected based on the aroma and the fact that this is an "imperial" witbier. Spicy but not extreme, mild bitterness due to the yeast and soft citrus, wheat, some candyish fruitiness, sweet malts, light floral notes and soft alcohol. Body is light-medium to medium. Carbonation is present and not intrusive or dominating. Finishes with more spices, sweet malts, strong fruit notes, some light candy, yeast, and grains. Not bad at all! ***NOTE: after mixing the remaining yeast and sediment into my glass the body changed to almost sunset gold and the bitterness level climbed due to the yeast. Didn’t make this unpleasant, but I would recommend rating before the sediment is mixed and then adding the remnants afterwards and noting it.
