railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 1, 2008 This was a spicy wheat ale with a fluffy white head and had a fruity flavor with lots of different things going on,the alcohol was well hidden and it was a refreshing beer.CHEERS! daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 30, 2008 Nice dark amber pour. Aromas of spice and malt. Flavors are all over the palate. Spice, honey, malt, sugar, dried fruit...man what a crazy brew. Nice, but kinda crazy! kibble48 (14), Kettering, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2008 This beer is insane, its full of different flavors that almost difficult to figure out from each other. Its good but was a little bit too much going on at once. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Thank you to Naka for the bottle Cloudy gold body sits beneath a thin but long lasting white head. The aroma is chock full of spices and alcohol vapors. Some sweet bubblegum, taffy, incense, ginger, clove and banana notes as well. The taste is full and creamy, but still kind of hot. The spices only add to the burn in the chest. The wheat is very obvious, with banana, bread, and spicy notes. The phenols from the Belgian yeast seem a bit overboard given the intense spicing. I appreciate what they were trying to do but I think this beer is just a bit too much for me. aoa56 (18), zeeland, Michigan, USA Jun 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours deep orange with a white head, with a mild spice smell. First impression is a honey flavor, followed by a light spice and a clean finish. Good summer at the lake beer. HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 12, 2008 pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is citrus, flowers, spice, with earthy and honey notes. Taste is almost like a trippel, fruity, bready, yeasty, with a bit more spice and wheatiness. A bit of honey in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation is great. Alcohol is not noticeable. I feel lucky to have found a bottle of this, because it’s excellent. Magicdave6 (5400), London, Greater London, England Jun 12, 2008 Bottle thanks to hopscotch. Aroma is spicey and peppery, but wheaty alcohol dominate, lemon character. Tsate is similar defo basicly just an upped alc vertion of a belgian wit, which is axactly what a belgian wit is not trying to be, but still drinkable enough all the same. A session quencher in style upped in alc so its no longer a session quencher? northernbrews (18), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Jun 6, 2008 Updated: Jun 25, 2008Had this during the Batch 4000 - 8000 tasting we had 9/22/07.
HellsBells24 (Joe) provided this bottle.
Appearance: This is a nice golden orange body with a thin off white head. This is slightly hazy.
Aroma: This has a pretty nice aroma. There is a nice mix of spicy hops, a little alcohol burn, orange, and pears. Kind of like a mix of a tripel and saison.
Flavor: The taste follows the aroma pretty good. Starts with some pear and orange. The spicy hops and alcohol come in near the finish. This is pretty nice.
Palate: This is about average for a strong belgian ale. The flavors hang for a bit, but it is pretty thin. This goes down very smooth. It’s hard to tell this is 9%. I could down a few of these in a session.
Overall: Another very good Batch beer from Bell’s. I love the stouts, but this is a nice change of pace. Larry says to drink this fresh, but I’ll be aging a few bottles of this. Get this while you can, you won’t be disappointed. I bought a case from the start, but I may be picking some more up before its gone.
Congrats Bell’s on 8000 batches and many more. Can’t wait for the 9000. Hopefully it’s another stout or barleywine.
