4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, thanks to Kevin L. Pours opaque dark brown with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, and whiskey-soaked raisins. Taste: sweet, but balanced by roasty bitterness. In addition to the flavors in the aroma, there’s also brown sugar, marshmallow, and soy. Palate: full body, slick, oily texture. Lasting sweet, roasty, almost smoky, warming alcohol finish. Overall: surprisingly lively and potent, not without it’s charm. A nice, slow sipping, sweet and rich imperial stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle thanks to deyholla! Pours opaque black with a small brown head that fades fairly quickly leaving nice residual and lacing. Lots of molasses in the aroma, date, roasted malts, a bit of coffee, toffee. Flavor is medium sweet, lots and lots of molasses, and here is the black licorice as well, lots of dark dried fruits, chocolate, more licorice. You know, I don’t like licorice, but it actually works well here. Light bitterness lingering to the finish. Full rich creamy mouthfeel, almost tongue coating. Only a mild hint of the whopping huge ABV. This is a pretty nice offering.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle in trade. Pours a dark brown with really no head. Aroma of dark fruit and raisins. Lots of sweet malts. Taste is mellow compared to the aroma. Its sugary sweet, with no much roast. Imperial stout? I think not, more like a barley wine. Its really sweet, but no alcohol burning, so thats good. Interesting beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Ar: Raisins and molasses - booze - currant and soy sauce.
Ap: Deep brown, opaque - tiny light mocha head, leaves a thin ring and slight web.
T: Sweet, soy sauce - light charcoal, lots of raisins and booze - coconut and currants, a bit peppery - medium-high bitterness - tingling alcohol lingers into the finish, with pepper and burnt sugar.
P: Full body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium.
O: There is a lot of complexity in this ale, some really interesting flavors - but, the sweet soy flavor and higher alcohol flavors just dominate to the point where they become distracting.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
As boozy at is black, Batch 9000 is something of an enigma. She has the shade and malt backbone of an imperial stout. Yet, she has the dark fruit character and brown sugar sweetness of a strong ale. Ah, to hell with it. This ale is rock solid, regardless of what it style it is. The brew is complex but easy on the palate. You’ll find yourself tasting it often - with different results each time.
