Having an aged bottle at Eulogy. Clear black copper. Head disappeared quickly. Rich dark beer. Raisins. Molasses. Prunes. Body is complex but a bit thin (likely due to its age.) Still great stuff!

Bottle. Pours black with a a thin chocolate brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has notes of molasses with dark fruits and some underlying roasted malts. Flavor starts with molasses and sweet dark grains that mellow to let some dark fruits, dark chocolate and booze.

Given the recent hubub over the BA version, thought Iíd revisit this one. Pours black with little indication of carb save a tiny central dome and rimming. Smells of molasses, booze, dark roasted malts, some malt syrup and a bit of raisin/date character. Taste is sweet and molasses with some prune and licorice and plenty of burnt sugar. Really sweet - gonna make my ass stank tomorrow. Quite empty bodied but sticky with sharp and easy carb finished semi dry. Time has changed the beer, but the body fell out of the center and the flavor just made all the manly flavors go sugar, making it sticky - a relative disappointment. Itís still a fine beer, but not as profound as once before. 3.5/3.5/4/4/4-3.88 Original review 27JAN11 A: Dark, molasses ale pours to globe with little carbonation on impact, but subsequently develops a sheet of latte foam. Light flickers through ale with little slices of golden rays pierce through the beer. S: Malt, licorice, molasses, and nougat overlay this beer. Smells a bit boozy. Definitely on the sweet side. Small hints of astringency. Intrigued as to how this one will taste. T: Coffee, chocolate, prunes, figs, dates, licorice, molasses, and malty goodness all spend nearly equal time playing in the mouth and highlighting my palate. Maybe dominated by the fig and coffee flavors, I am very, very happy with this. Getting some raisin flavor in here too. M: Low carbonation, fine in influence. The beer is heavy, and yet feels so light and velvety. Reminds of a really well done porter. Warms the palate with the ABV, but tastefully. D: This is very nice. I could drink a few of these. Great strong ale. Well balanced, nice flavor. High alcohol but it doesnít destroy your palate. Maybe a bit on the sweet side.

Black pour with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate covered cherries with lots of extra booze. Brown sugar and raisins. The flavor is sweet and alcoholic. imperial stout with a shot of Cognac. I got this in trade a year or so back. it could have aged on and on.

On tap at Michigan Summer Beer Fest. Very sweet but slow sipping. A very interesting beer with a lot of different flavors.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2014 [Bottle / 3.5 years old] Thanks, Jeff! Deep, dark brown with just a little light allowed through. Fine bubbled, dark tan head foams up and settles rather quickly to a small, bubbly skin. Aroma is huge, melted brown sugar, mild woodsiness, milky & creamy cocoa drifting in and out... The high level of sweetness is very apparent from the aroma alone. Taste is super sweet. Brown sugar, thick molasses, milky and sweet cocoa nibs. A touch of that woodsy note in the finish, too. Finish is heavy with dying malt sweetness, more molasses and toffee, and plenty of brown sugar. Syrupy, thick mouth feel. Good beer, would be great if it were much less sweet. Four to six ounces of this one is plenty.

[Bottle / 4 years old] Tried another bottle, again thanks to Jeff. Sweetness still apparent but much more tame. Iím liking this beer more with time.... I think it will still continue to get better.

Pours brown black with only a touch of tan head bubbles. Scent has molasses, licorice, raisin. Taste is complex, with flavors of raisin, soy, dark fruit, licorice, wood, some earthiness. Smooth. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden. Good, but not at its prime. Wish I got to it sooner.

Deep dark brown color. Roasted malt, dried fruit and licorice smell. Sweet, maple syrup, roasted malt. Sweet and heavy.
