At BHB depot fest...big dark stout. Very nutty malty sweet. Didn't get a ton of maple but it was sweet, slightly roasty.

Black. This is confusing to me. Very dry. Roasted...almost burnt but not smokey. Tasted at stlhops 8th anniversary party

March 12, 2016 - on tap at Rare Beer Fest held in the Minnesota History Center. Black pour with big head. Very hoppy aroma and likewise in the taste. There was a time where Bells would have been one of my early stops, but stuff like this is why they have become one of my last stops at beer fests.

Never would guess honey. Smell a sweetness, and taste it, but only know it is honey cuz the deScription said so. It is a great beer though. Sweet scent, with bitter malts to balance. Dark black color. Medium to low carbonation. Taste is mellow toasted malts and barley. Some hops, a bit of boozy hits at the end. Full mouth feel that lingers. Tap.

Aromas of molasses and nuts with a touch of chocolate. Very malt dominated, hops are definitely in the background. Small light brown head, dark brown colored beer. Fairly heavy sweetness, moderate bitterness. Full bodied, long finish of nuts, molasses and chocolate with some heat from somewhere. Overall there are a fairly complex, diverse set of flavors which I like.

Draft at hy-vee. Pour is deep dark brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, light tobacco, and light alcohol burn. Flavor is roasted malt, light tobacco, and light alcohol burn. Just like it smells. Not overly complex. Not getting too much maple or honey. I really like bells stouts, this is not my favorite though.

Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, some earthy bitterness, the maple and honey are subtle and do add some sweetness, but this presents as another roasty imperial stout, medium body, decent.

Draft at Ei8ht Ball, served in a flight. Pours a deep opaque brown with some amber highlights at the edges and a small khaki head that laces the glass while settling into a ring and a very thin island of film. Notes of dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, pine, and some light maple and honey sweetness. But those are subtle. Medium-full bodied, with a really smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Itís big and balanced...and kind of dull, honestly. Nothing wrong with it, but it doesnít pop like Iíd hoped.

On draught
Pours basically black with a small but well retained head that leaves nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is roasty and lightly sweet with some vanilla and dark fruit. Itís got a rich malt character all around with a whole bunch of roasty espresso like aromas.

The flavor is well within the proud tradition of Bells lineup of big stouts, lots of roast, plenty of bitterness, a nice mild hop character.... this one is sweeter than Expedition for sure with more dark fruit and dark sugar. Itís got caramel but itís got bitterness to balance it. It comes across as bigger than 8.4 abv, but thatís not to say that itís unnecessarily boozy.

Big, rich, bitter, and balanced. Just fine.
