3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap in Decatur, GA
Catching the tail end of some sort of special Bells event at the Brickhouse I was able to get a pour of this solid imperial stout. For Bells it might be ho hum. For the style in general it sits somewhere above the median. I’d give it a second shot.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base and sticky mocha head lend presence to a deep inky glass. Chocolate malts, maple, and sweet coffee pull in different directions as you examine the smells radiating from within.
Flavor / Palate - A slow warmth radiates outwards from the first sip. This mild mannered imperial stout doesn’t break 10% but still offers a nice robust texture. The resulting experience makes it much more accessible and easy going with a finish that doesn’t immediately make it your final nightcap. If this hits Cleveland I will give it a try again.

4/2/16. On tap during the BHB 3rd Anniversary Bash. Black pour under a nice tan head. Roasted aroma, touches of sweetness, dark coffee and ashy malts. Roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate, sweet sugars. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Champps in Brookfield. Black pour with a brown/beige clingy head leaving great lace. Sweet malty nose. Chocolate, honey, dark grains. Light roast, if squinting. Taste is of sweet caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa, light sweet honey. not a great flavor combination, somehow, unfortunately, but ok. Body is medium to full, blend is solid, carbonation is low and there is some alcohol presence. Finishes very bittersweet. Decent, not great. 13.8

At BHB depot fest...big dark stout. Very nutty malty sweet. Didn't get a ton of maple but it was sweet, slightly roasty.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
March 12, 2016 - on tap at Rare Beer Fest held in the Minnesota History Center. Black pour with big head. Very hoppy aroma and likewise in the taste. There was a time where Bells would have been one of my early stops, but stuff like this is why they have become one of my last stops at beer fests.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Never would guess honey. Smell a sweetness, and taste it, but only know it is honey cuz the deScription said so. It is a great beer though. Sweet scent, with bitter malts to balance. Dark black color. Medium to low carbonation. Taste is mellow toasted malts and barley. Some hops, a bit of boozy hits at the end. Full mouth feel that lingers. Tap.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of molasses and nuts with a touch of chocolate. Very malt dominated, hops are definitely in the background.
Small light brown head, dark brown colored beer.
Fairly heavy sweetness, moderate bitterness.
Full bodied, long finish of nuts, molasses and chocolate with some heat from somewhere.
Overall there are a fairly complex, diverse set of flavors which I like.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at hy-vee. Pour is deep dark brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, light tobacco, and light alcohol burn. Flavor is roasted malt, light tobacco, and light alcohol burn. Just like it smells. Not overly complex. Not getting too much maple or honey. I really like bells stouts, this is not my favorite though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, some earthy bitterness, the maple and honey are subtle and do add some sweetness, but this presents as another roasty imperial stout, medium body, decent.
