COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

Brown color with small head. Aroma is a sweet nutty smell.Nice blend of hops and malts as this brown ale is a little more complex than other browns.Solid finish with a nice hoppy bitterness. A solid Brown!

Not a big fan of the style. Light brown with a thin head. Very roasty (seems like victory or biscuit malt). Lightly hopped and very drinkable. Not bad

Pours brown with a thin head. Aroma of nutty malt, with a slight cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste is of sweet malt, roasted nuts, with underlying cinnamon. Slight dry coffee aftertaste.

A really nice Brown Ale. Most Brown's I've had lack real character and flavor. Not so here, tons of flavor and quite enjoyable.

A very clear brown color. Kathy did say she noticed blueberry in the aroma, and I agree. I think there may have been a hint of hazelnut in the taste. It was almost too crisp for me, but overall this is a good, solid brown.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2004 I really want to get more of this. This is easily the finest Brown Ale I have ever had, with a ton of complexity. It has that wonderful quality of being something that can be drunk in tremendous quantity at the same time as providing a ton of flavors to keep one interested. Update: I was lucky enough to find a bottle of this in Pa., and it lives up to my initial impressions. Superb.

From the Kalamazoo's tasting at the brickskeller: A very solid brown ale. Most of my notes just say that for a brown ale, it's a good brown ale.

Dark apple cider brown color. No head. Smells sweet, rich, slight bitterness to the taste. Smooth and tangy? Lot of carbonation. Nice flavor and full body, lots of sediment. Slight bitterness in the back of the throat.

10/5/03: bottle.
malt and alcohol nose. brown-orange body with minimal lacing. very malty with a medium hoppy finish. alcohol is apparent, especially as the beer warms. (note to self: when cold, this beer had some hints of raisin but the raisin taste disappeared once the beer warmed).
