From a bottle, pours a dark brown-amber with a fairly large white head. Strong malt presence at the nose of caramel and roastedness. Couldn’t really detect much cocoa. Little hop presence. Body is fairly light with little bitterness to taste.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap poured into a stemmed pilsner glass. There’s a light, faint aroma of toasty caramel and a light citrus. It pours a hazy caramel brown with a touch of effervescence to it. It has a soft, creamy tan-orange head that reduces to a medium soft ring with a spattering of lace on the surface. It leaves behind stripes of fuzzy lace down the glass. The taste is a medium malty sweet, and a light bitterness. The medium, medium-light malty body has a thin, but creamy texture with a light, fuzzy, creamy carbonation. There are notes of chocolate syrup, cocao, caramel, and light nuts and citrus. The finish has a touch of spiciness and citrus peel to it and the aftertaste is light and has a bit of a clean, grass character to it.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown with one finger tan head. Caramel molasses and coco aromas. Very nice caramel molasses brown flavors with cinnamon. light roasty but not like a stout. Not heavy but not watery. Nice hop balance through the finish. I find brown ales to be easy drinking but often boring, this is the former but not at all boring. Well done

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Quite good, but slightly watery, particularly for the ABV. Good use a bit more dollop of maltiness that would otherwise make this a hallmark of the style.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2014 Molasses and caramel front. Cocoa powder, cinnamon and dark fruits round it out. Slight tartness. Medium bodied worth an herbal, almost chai tea finish.
