COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth, toasty brown ale, Best Brown Ale is a mainstay in our fall & winter lineup. With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops.

I’m a bit puzzled by the high ratings on this beer; I found it absolutely unremarkable. Seemed a bit thin-bodied and weak on the flavor. The alcohol content is also pretty evident in the flavor...I actually mainly smell alchol in the aroma and I don’t like that. There’s a light roast and a moderate amount of hops, which I find leave a slight metallic taste in my mouth, reminiscent of some German beers. Not too heavy, which is a plus. Leaves a pleasant bitterness on my palate, especially towards the back of the mouth. I find this beer tastes a little more pleasant (more of the toasty quality of the malt comes out) if I sip it...but it’s thin for a dark beer so I find myself wanting to drink it more quickly. This did not impress; it was drinkable but I probably would not get it again.

16 ounce can > pint glass A: Pours a murky dark amber with a half finger of lingering head. S: Caramel malt is dominant in the nose. T: Caramel maltiness with a bitter bite of chocolate and earthy hop note. Little real sweetness but ’rounded". Pretty good balance of flavors. M: Medium body and good level of carbonation on the tongue. Very smooth mouthfeel. Clean, not cloying. O: Very smooth drinkable brown with nothing negative.

Bottle, bbotmc. Deep sienna-brown. Dark fruit aroma of plum, some nuts and port wine. Tastes sweet, a little alcoholic, but all in all fruity and nutty and somewhat earthy. Heavy, bitter finish and fruity mouthfeel. Very good and warming winter beer.

Bottle sample. Thanks Tom L. Cloudy brownish-red with small beige head. Sweet aroma, raisin, liqueur, very fruity (pear, peach). Sweet flavor, date honey, raisin, malty, a bit woody, light hoppy bitterness, sweet-sour finish. Light carbonation, medium-bodied.

Deep brown pour. The aroma is rich and chocolatey. A rich malt profile and a soft toasty sweetness. Has a moderate earthy bitterness leaving it a very well rounded and balanced product. Rich and malty. Really lovely brown ale.

Somewhat hazy brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, chocolate, and some dark fruit. Taste nutty and toasty, with woody notes (wood bark comes to mind) and some burnt caramel. I would call hopping excessive for style, but than I guess this is an American brown, not an English Brown, so I suppose not. Good autumn beer

Bottle shared at Beer Market Jaffa. Deep amber-brown with a beige head. Aroma of nutty malt, some toast, a bit of chocolate, a bit of caramel and a light fruity hint. Sweetish flavor, malty, nutty, a bit toasty, with a chocolate note, a bit of caramel and a drier bitterish finish. Medium-bodied, rounded mouthfeel. A decent Brown Ale.

Can. Dark cola with a nice tan head. Aroma is dark fruit and cocoa. Taste follows and adds some caramel. Very light and creamy mouthfeel. Good but could use a bit of roastiness or something to balance the sweetness.
